The b Book.
Things that are found the World Around that start with our sound of ‘b’. This is a book for Children, pre-readers on up and to the people who read to them. I hope you all enjoy it, all at once, or a part at a time. I hope you enjoy this for yourself, while reading it to your child, while your child reads it with you (even just the ‘b’ parts) points to pictures in it, drools on it, and tries to gum it. I hope that it leads you both to explore the commonalities of our world and learn, or remember, many of the things that we have in our lives that just about everyone else knows about, too. “Why ‘B’ ?”, you ask. Because of Braids, Breads, Bells, & Beads. It occurred to me that almost every culture I knew of, past & present, has these things, & we name them starting with the basic sound of ‘b’, one of the first sounds a baby, every baby, makes. I wondered how many things common to us all also start (in English) with “b”. There were many. So I thought, “If a child sees how many things they know about that everybody knows about, it could increase their understanding of the Human condition & present a method for sharing that understanding. And where understanding is shared, peace is more likely. This sounds like a good idea & a great reason for a book”. (Yes, I actually think like that.) The book you hold is the result. “Can Pre-Readers learn from this?” Long before they can read or even speak, Children learn. The first six months of a child’s life is vitally more important than most realize. They can take it all in: languages, music, motion, colors… Exposures to Prosody - the sounds, rhythms, tempos, interrelation of rhyme & vocal-percussion - help form more creative minds & give them useful tools needed later. “Short Attention Spans?” Please. The Young learn every waking moment. Their whole life is a single attention span. A book this size will not daunt even the youngest of them if it is read to them with affection.
