1. What is Amazon Giveaway?
A service that helps Sellers and Authors on Amazon to increase product awareness and sales using promotional giveaways (e.g., sweepstakes) that are easy to set up and run. Amazon Giveaway supports securing your prizes, enforcing entry requirements such as watching a brief video, hosting your giveaway, determining winners instantly or by random drawing, getting prizes to winners, and handling certain income tax reporting responsibilities. As a host, you decide what you want to give away, and then use Amazon Giveaway to create product awareness and sales. Participants can enter your giveaway with confidence knowing that it will be run as described, prizes are real and will be delivered by Amazon, and their information will be protected. 2. What types of giveaways can I run?
Amazon Giveaway supports four models to select winners. Prizes can be awarded at random based on odds set by the host (1/N), at an interval set by the host (every Nth), to the first number of participants set by the host (first N), or selected randomly after the giveaway entry period has ended.
3. What does it cost to run a giveaway?
There is no additional fee to run a giveaway. As a host, you purchase prizes at the price on the Amazon.com site and pay for estimated sales tax and any shipping charges for the winner(s). Since winners and their locations are not known when you set up a giveaway, you are charged an estimated amount to cover sales tax and (for physical prizes) shipping and are refunded any excess when your giveaway ends. If physical prizes are unclaimed when your giveaway ends, those will be returned and included in your refund. If you have digital prizes unclaimed when your giveaway ends, you can create a new giveaway with those prizes or download them to distribute however you choose. You will receive a confirmation email after your giveaway ends that includes this information.
4. How do I set up a giveaway?
Sellers can start in Seller Central from this page. All others should look on product detail pages and locate the 'Set up an Amazon Giveaway' section near the bottom of the page.
5. What do I need to run a giveaway?
You will need an Amazon.com account that is in good standing and have a valid credit card that can cover the entire estimated cost of running the giveaway. In addition, you will need to provide any written content or images that participants will see when entering your giveaway. See the Community Guidelines for more information about posting content and images.
6. What items can I use for a giveaway prize?
There are tens of millions of eligible physical items shipped from and sold by Amazon.com or Fulfilled by Amazon. Kindle eBooks are also eligible. If you see a ‘Set up an Amazon Giveaway’ section near the bottom of the product detail page, the item is eligible. Items currently not eligible for giveaways include digital items such as songs, movies, or apps; Amazon.com Gift Cards; items sold and shipped by Marketplace sellers; certain items that require special handling; items that cannot be shipped to all states; items in the Add-on program; used items; restricted and adult items; and items that are Prime exclusive. There are also price and total value restrictions explained in FAQ 7.
7. How many prizes can I have in my giveaway?
Each giveaway is for a single prize type up to a maximum quantity. There are two things that determine the maximum number of prizes in your giveaway. First, you can select up to the quantity available for purchase on Amazon.com, with a maximum of 30 physical prizes or 50 digital prizes. Price is the second factor in determining number of prizes. The total value (retail price) of all prizes, excluding tax and shipping, cannot exceed $5,000. There is no limit on the number of individual giveaways you can setup. You may also find that the quantity of prizes you can offer is limited for a particular product. This may be because of limited inventory available or because the seller (either Amazon or an FBA Seller) has placed a purchase quantity limit on that product. If you are the Seller, you can lift your own purchase quantity limit to allow for a larger prize quantity.
8. Who can participate in my giveaway?
Giveaways are only open to legal residents of the 50 U.S. or D.C., 18 or older. If the value of all prizes exceeds $500 then residents of Rhode Island cannot participate. If you or a participant shares the link on Twitter or any other public forum, anyone can discover your giveaway and participate.
9. How do I offer a discount to Giveaway entrants?
Amazon Pro Sellers can create promotions for their items in Seller Central and include them to offer entrants exclusive discounts. The discount on the giveaway prize will be offered to entrants who do not win. Giveaways with promotion are eligible for higher exposure, which will improve the marketing performance and increase the audience of your giveaway. If you are offering a promotion it should always be included in the giveaway creation and not messaged in your host name or provided video. Amazon Pro Sellers can start from "Create a Promotion: Percentage Off” page in Seller Central and follow these steps:
10. How should I advertise or promote my giveaway?
If you select the "public" option under Discoverability, we will market your giveaway for you. Eligible giveaways will appear on our listing page, in our daily email, or in other placements throughout Amazon.com. If you decided to mark your giveaway as "private" we will not publicly share your giveaway. You can advertise your giveaway how and where you see fit, which may include: in social media or email, on a blog or website, as a QR code on a poster, or in a text message. Regardless of how you advertise, note that being clear with consumers about their "chance" to win is important when advertising a sweepstakes, so say something like "Enter for a chance to win" and avoid "Enter to win". Also, be advised that many states require that any advertising of a sweepstakes be accompanied by an abbreviated version of the official rules and provide a link to or copy of the official rules. An example of this is including the following in any advertising of your giveaway: "NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. Ends the earlier of 2/10/15 11:59PM, or when all prizes are claimed. See Official Rules." The official rules for Amazon Giveaway can be found at https://giveaway.amazon.com/rules or a shortened link at https://amzn.to/GArules.
11. Are there any significant tax rules I should be aware of?
If you select higher value prizes, winners may be required to verify their Tax ID (Social Security Number) before receiving their prize. This allows Amazon to fulfill necessary tax reporting obligations, and serves as an additional form of verification. If a winner does not supply valid tax information, the prize is not awarded to that person and is either returned to the prize pool or returned and refunded if the giveaway has ended.
12. How are shipping costs determined for physical prizes and do FREE Shipping or Prime FREE Two-Day Shipping benefits apply?
Hosts pay the lowest cost shipping on each prize awarded and the final cost is determined by winners' shipping addresses. FREE Shipping does apply if each individual prize item is eligible. Neither hosts' nor winners' Prime FREE Two-Day Shipping benefits apply to giveaway prizes.
13. Can participants enter more than once? How do I know that is enforced?
No, we enforce one entry per Amazon.com account in all cases. At times, we may ask participants to verify other data like their mobile phone number before entering to verify their identity. We know you expect your giveaways to be fair and have designed Amazon Giveaway with that in mind. We also run our own giveaways using the same service available to you.
14. Can I change my giveaway details, edit the content, or cancel the giveaway after purchasing it?
No you cannot edit a giveaway after it is created. Please review all content closely (according to the Community Guidelines) before you proceed to checkout. If you find a mistake or change your mind, you can cancel your giveaway from your Giveaway Dashboard if you have no participants at that time. Once we register the first participant other than the host’s account, the giveaway will proceed according to the terms outlined.
15. Is my giveaway prize purchase eligible for AmazonSmile?
Yes, your purchase is eligible if you start at smile.amazon.com and then select and purchase a prize that displays "Eligible for AmazonSmile donation" on the product detail page.
16. What is the Discoverability setting?
Choosing the "public" option setting allows Amazon to make your giveaway discoverable to other Amazon customers. It will be eligible to appear in our marketing emails, Today's Giveaway listing page, mobile and email notifications, and other ingresses. If you select "private" we will not share your Giveaway with anyone and you will need to find an audience for your Giveaway. You will determine this setting for each individual giveaway. You can't change this setting once the giveaway is created.**
17. Why should I make my giveaway public?
If you are interested in extending the reach of your giveaway and would like to introduce your product to other Amazon customers, this is a great way to do it. We target your Giveaway to customers who are interested in the type of prize you are offering, leading to increased product and brand awareness and sales. With the "public" option your Giveaway becomes eligible to appear throughout the Amazon site and may be seen by thousands of potential customers.
18. Are there any restrictions on what videos I can display in my giveaway?
We do not allow videos that YouTube has designated as "restricted". These videos are not viewable with restricted mode turn on.
You can see if your video is restricted by going to YouTube and changing your settings to toggle the "Restricted Mode: On". If your video is not viewable with restricted mode turned on, it will not be eligible to be included in a giveaway.
19. How do I make sure that I follow all of the guidelines when hosting a giveaway?
We prohibit and/or discourage the creation of giveaways which will lead to a poor customer or entrant experience. Giveaways should be created with the intent to award prizes to customers who have fulfilled the entry requirements or to drive product awareness. Attempts to game our ranking system, confusing or deceptive messaging, or any other abuse of our terms and conditions can result in loss of entitlements to create giveaways. Examples of such prohibited/discouraged actions include, but are not limited to:
1. Do I need an Amazon.com account to enter?
Yes, you will need to have one or create an account to enter.
2. How do I enter a giveaway?
When you find a link to enter a giveaway, simply click and follow the instructions on the page. You may be required to follow an Author, watch a video, or take some other action, and then either enter into a random drawing for a chance to win or tap the box to open and instantly see if you won.
3. Does it cost me anything to enter?
No. No purchase is necessary to enter or win.
4. How do I know there are prizes still available?
If you are able to enter a giveaway, prizes are still available. New entrants will not be accepted after all prizes are claimed.
5. How do I know what the prize is?
The prize title is on any landing and entry pages. Tap the prize title to see the prize image, price, and ratings. You can click the image to open the product detail page to learn more about the prize.
6. How do I know if I have won?
Giveaway winners are determined in two ways, via either random instant win or random drawing. For instant win, immediately after tapping the box you will find out if you are a potential winner. Random drawing giveaways require you to enter for a chance to win and then potential winners will be notified once the entry period has ended. Random drawing giveaways can have entry periods from 1 day to 30 days. Once you have been notified as a potential winner, you then need to confirm an eligible shipping address, and potentially provide tax identity information, in the time indicated to claim your prize. You will receive a confirmation email once your prize is claimed.
7. What is an eligible address?
In order to claim their prize, winners need to confirm a shipping address in the 50 U.S. states or District of Columbia. This must be a street address and excludes P.O. Box addresses or Amazon Locker delivery. If the value of all prizes in the giveaway exceeds $500 then addresses in Rhode Island are not eligible.
8. Will I be asked for my Social Security number?
If you win higher value prizes or if other circumstances apply, you may be asked to submit your tax information to Amazon for tax reporting purposes. Your information will be verified with the IRS via Amazon's secure system and verification will only need to be completed once per customer. This information is not shared with hosts. You will need to complete this in the time indicated to claim your prize, otherwise the prize will be forfeited.
9. Who will send my prize and how long will it take to receive it?
For non-digital prizes, Amazon will ship your prize directly to you. It will be sent by either Standard Shipping or FREE Shipping. You can find general shipping information here. You will not receive specific tracking information for this package. Digital prizes will be added directly to your Amazon account.
10. What do I do if I won a prize but it was damaged when it arrived or it never arrived?
Contact Amazon Customer Service and have your prize confirmation email handy. They will help you get a replacement. Do not contact the host.
11. Can I return or exchange my prizes?
No, all prizes are final. If you do not want it, we suggest giving it to someone else who would enjoy it.
