Most pet parents know that foods, such as chocolate and grapes, are poisonous to cats and dogs, but there are many other human foods and treats that also can be harmful to pets and cause health problems. That’s why it’s always a good idea to stick to pet food and treats made specifically for your cat or dog to avoid foods they can’t eat.
Our furry friends are curious by nature. They jump onto counters, get into the garbage and manage to wiggle into the smallest spaces. If your pets can easily get to any of the foods listed below, put them in secure cabinets and containers, or up high where their paws can’t reach.
You can’t keep your eyes on your pets at all times, so if you suspect that your dog or cat has eaten something that is potentially toxic, contact your veterinarian right away. Look for any unusual behavior or signs of poisoning, which can include vomiting, diarrhea, bloating, trouble breathing and lethargy.
