Maybe an avid planner and host like me should say that in the course of the party I’m on a cloud of joy, but that would be a lie. Planning and preparing are my favorite parts of the process. Ok I have to admit I love Tori (hence the title of my review). What I love about her latest book is how down to Earth she really is (reading her stories you would think she was the mom next door talking about party planning). She has some fantastic ideas on how to make your own party without spending a gagillion dollars (yes that is a real amount). Everything show is tastefully done and she even provides you with some recipes (amazingly enough yes this girl does cook). If you are someone, like myself, who needs beginner information on party planning and plenty of ideas then this book is for you (it comes complete with stories from Tori's everyday life, which is always humerous).

I bought this book because I expected to find some good ideas / advice about party planning on an advanced level. Well, it does provide some idea but most of them are so outstanding (although sometimes great) that cannot be included in just ANY party we throw (i.e. the tulle balls are brilliant but one cannot just hang them at an `ordinary` party, if the other posh elements are missing). Also, it is clear that theme parties, with this level of details are either for people with indefinite amount of free time or for professionals. Searching for antique frames to be transformed into trays is also a brilliant, however time consuming idea (A mom of two small kids and wife of a high level executive I happen to regularly throw parties for 10-15 kids or 15-20 adults with no catering service employed......yes, it is feasible, but beleive me, you have no energy left for most details included in the book, unless you do one party a year and you plan for months ahead..) All in all, not for busy moms and definitely not one for European taste - most of the decoration are simply too cheesy.
