It arrived today and setup was a snap. Just place the cone on top and twist to lock. I used my kitchen table, and the clamp went on easily, despite the table having bevelled edges. Placed my yarn on the swift, inserted the thread into the slit on top of the cone, threaded through the guide (make sure it's pulled out so it doesn't rub against the side of your yarn), and cranked away. I did two hanks. One was some Malabrigo yarn and the other was a hank of Cascade 220. The Cascade wound with nary a hitch, but the Malabrigio did stick at a couple of places. Not a problem because all it took was lifting a thread or two on the swift and that freed it up...which is one reason why I like the hand cranked version. As soon as the tension tightened up, I was able to feel it and stop to adjust.Read more ›
Sure, it won't take a giant skein and turn it into a giant ball, but for the price, I'm VERY pleased. The more expensive ones may work better, but I can't imagine they're a better value.
Since I got it, I've been winding all the yarn in my studio into nice, stackable balls, and having a blast doing it! I love how now I can pull from the center and the outside if I need to. If you're debating on whether you need one, you do--with it, you can spend less time winding balls and more time knitting, crocheting or weaving!

I really like this but the metal piece that holds the yarn will not stay up. I have to hold it as I go. But was a good buy for the price.Published 2 months ago by Jonathan U.

Very annoying as the silver thread bar keeps falling as soon as you get into the groove of spinning the yarn.Published 6 months ago by Lauri Shorter
The winder works perfectly. I have wound about 25 cakes so far and the arm stays up and I haven't had any problems. It's a great deal.Published 6 months ago by Angela Fink
It works well, the only issue is the bottom clamp that secures the winder to a table. It is quite difficult to loosen and tighten the clamp using the knob. Read morePublished 7 months ago by Michelle Naragon
The handle that holds the threading yarn doesn't stay up very well and it's hard to adjust the space lever to remove it from the surface that I clamped it on.Published 8 months ago by debs
