Hayward has been out 6 times to repair with no luck. They won't take calls now. It is January. Other equipment got damaged in the recent freezes. I HAVE HAD TO FILE SUIT IN LOUISIANA. WILL UPDATE WHEN LAWSUIT IS COMPLETE. DO NOT BUY NY OF THESE PRODUCTS FROM MAZON. AMAZON HAS DONE NOTHING.
The heater failed again this past weekend for the same reason. I am now researching other heater manufactures and will report my selection when determined. I am actually looking forward to throwing the Hayward into the dump if for no other reason than the terrible and disrespectful treatment I received from Hayward during my call for assistance.
I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT THAT NO ONE PURCHASE A HAYWARD POOL HEATER UNLESS YOU WISH TO REPLACE IT EACH SPRING AND DO NOT WANT A WARRANTY!
Our pool gets little sun and before we could only use it when it was 95 out. We used to go in maybe once a week but this summer we were in there almost every day.
I did the piping but called the pros for the gas and electric. Every pool professional has told me it is crucial that you maintain good pool chemistry to prevent the heater from corroding. I put in a bypass line and shut the water off to heater until the pool was balanced and clean. I also shut it off when I shocked the pool. I would recommend doing the same.
Either these Heat Exchangers are not made robust enough or they have a manufacturing assembly problem. I go with the later once since the leak seems to be where the elbows are brazed into the heat exchanger.
Now I have figure out how to contact Hayward and get a RGA#. Wish me luck I'll let you know how it goes.
I just bought a big 400,000 BTU Hayward for the pool and installed it 2 weeks ago. I pray I have better luck with it!
