The business section of my shoe closet would make Imelda Marcos cry. So many shoes, and nearly all of them inadequate. You would recognize all the names, each one famous for comfort. Only the Danskos have made it to the Ring of Honor, and will be the only shoe I take to a trade show from now on.
At last year's CES, I could afford only one pair of Danskos, so my alternate-day pair was Clarks. The Clarks worked for about three miles before rubbing my heel raw. I detoured back to the hotel, put a Band-Aid on my heel, and switched to the Danskos. They felt so good, I decided to forgo the interminable taxi and shuttle lines of Las Vegas and walked between each venue. I had a step counter in my pocket, and at the end of the day I had walked 24,000+ steps. And felt like I could do a lot more.
The ability to walk great distances is wonderful, but the Danskos' biggest strength is how they feel when you have to stand for hours at a time. They balance you so perfectly, the hard work that your calves and knees must normally do to keep you upright is cut in half. Absolutely amazing for your posture.
Well, you know what I did next. I bought another pair of Danskos. A few weeks ago, they made their debut at the CEDIA trade show in Dallas. No break-in was necessary. Another super-comfortable trade show, and another week of walking instead of taking cabs around downtown. I donated all the other business shoes in my closet to charity.
