Food to Live: Eat Well and Be Healthy

Food to Live is a company committed to making people healthier by providing them with delicious, healthy food. We established this business with a purpose of making a change that would take our world one step closer to being a better place for us and our children.

Food to Live delivers a variety of natural, organic and raw foods that can enable anyone to develop healthy eating habits. All our products can be included into a vegan diet.

Where Do Poppy Seeds Come From?

The poppy seed plant originated from Asia, but it’s so resilient that today you can see some varieties of poppies blooming almost everywhere. It’s very important to understand that there are many types of this specific plant, and their properties differ quite a bit. Some of them are inedible and cultivated merely for the pretty flowers.

Food To Live Poppy Seeds can be used for baking, making sauces, sprinkled on desserts, or added to almost any other dish. Such a tasty detail would not only complement the flavor of your food but also boost its nutritional value.

In order to grow, poppy seed plants require lots of sunlight and fertile soil. Due to these simple requirements, you can grow them almost anywhere to enjoy the beautiful blooms. Therefore, it’s always best to enjoy the delectable poppy seed snacks while at home.

Poppy seeds vary in color from white to dark bluish-black. It’s the latter kind that has the richest flavor and can be used as a thickener in some recipes. This is the most popular variety of poppy seeds used in cooking.

Poppy Seeds from Food To Live are a premium-quality product sourced from reputed growers of England. They are manufactured and processed in accordance to the highest food safety standards, so your whole family can enjoy them.

Poppy Seeds: Benefits and Safety Profile

The nature of this particular food is such that you can’t really ingest large amounts of it regularly. However, even small portions can be good for you, especially if consumed regularly.

Poppy Seeds: Nutrition Data

When you look at them as a source of nutrition, poppy seeds definitely show that including them into your diet is a good decision. They contain very high amounts of essential minerals as well as B vitamins.

The most important elements you can obtain from these seeds are:

  • Manganese
  • Copper
  • Calcium
  • Iron
  • Phosphorus
  • Magnesium
  • Zinc

100 grams of poppy seeds contain so much of these nutrients that you get over 100% of the required daily dose of almost all of them. Manganese stands out as you actually get 292% of it.

Poppy seeds nutrition value is such that two spoonfuls of them a day will be about a quarter of an adult’s daily need in calcium and copper. This is a significant amount for anyone, but vegans should be especially appreciative of the calcium content as this element is hard to come by in a plant-based diet.

How to Enjoy Poppy Seeds to the Fullest

You can enjoy poppy seeds in many different ways. You should definitely start with using poppy seeds for baking as this is when they are most delicious. As it usually is with seeds, the heat of the oven brings out their flavor to the fullest. Poppy seeds, in particular, also give your baked goods a pleasant crunch.

We at Food To Live are particularly fond of poppy seed muffins made with this recipe:

  • 2 portions of flax egg replacements (if you aren’t a vegan, just use plain eggs)
  • 1/3 cup lemon juice
  • ¾ cup applesauce (unsweetened)
  • ¼ cup coconut oil (melted)
  • ¼ cup agave (or maple syrup)
  • ¼ cup almond milk (unsweetened)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon zest
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ cup rolled oats
  • ½ cup almond meal
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour

Ingredients for glaze:
  • 1 cup sugar (powdered)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

  1. Mix flax eggs with apple sauce, oil, almond milk, lemon juice, zest, sugar, agave, salt, and baking soda. Whisk together for 45 seconds so that the soda can react properly with lemon juice.
  2. Stir in meal, oats, and flour into the mix gradually to avoid clumps. Try not to over-mix as the batter has to be soft and tender. If it gets too thick, add more almond milk.
  3. Add poppy seeds into the mix and stir carefully.
  4. Bake the muffins in a preheated oven (375F) for about 20 minutes and let them cool.
  5. Whisk together the ingredients for glaze and pour it onto the muffins while those are still warm.

How to Store Poppy Seeds

When buying Poppy Seeds from Food To Live, you get a top-quality product packaged into a ziplock bag. It’s an airtight container that can be used for storing the seeds. Keep them in a cool place and do your best to keep them dry.

Refrigerating is the best way to store seeds as this provides the maximum longevity of the product. However, you shouldn’t freeze them as this diminishes the nutritional value of poppy seeds greatly.
Never use poppy seeds after the expiration date!

Try to keep the package with the seeds away from spices and other sources of potent smells as they might absorb the aroma.
