Loud and Unnecessary Beep with each button press

Each time a button is pressed a loud beep sounds, and I mean loud enough to wake someone up in another part of the house; beeps like this are usually reserved for when you've done something very wrong. The only other review, written after I ordered this, called it piercing, and I agree with that. It cannot be shut off, and I am not really willing to void the warranty by removing the beeper. If you don't need to use the Tare button or change units or count or use any of the other buttons, then maybe the beep won't be a bother, but for baking I use the tare button regularly and the beep is very annoying. This is too bad because it seems to be a nice design otherwise. I don't know what the designers were thinking, but it's going back.

700 grams and they mean it

Used this excellent scale 10 years composing a variety of potter clays, frits and oxides .This is the only scale to go to 2 decimal places for less that $200.Accurate down to a tiny .01g.,essential for testing Mason-type stains. It also portions out to a huge 600 g. for glaze batching.A horn sounds if you are going to the 700g. danger zone.Loud and it needs it! Calibration is easy but the required 500 test weight is a separate purchase. Numerals are bright and big.Buttons are straightforward.Electronic tare is an absolute godsend.This scale is the brains of my operation,I dropped my first one onto a concrete floor several years ago.This will destroy an electronic scale. Replaced it immediately and have 2 as spares( which I have not used).It will NOT stand heavy use,if weighing something beefy like throwing clays ,use a manual beam balance.

Good, but fire alarm like beep is a deal breaker

I got this model after being satisfied with the 7kg 7001DX
from the same manufacturer and needed something with 0.1g
resolution. It is made mostly out of plastic. The weighting element
inside is a metal block, seems like aluminum. The weighting platform
is plastic with a thin metal sheet of stainless steel on top of it.

First the good things: Linearity seems perfect compared to other
brands. When closed, the plastic cover is not touching the platform
so you can put things on top of the scale without stressing
the weight sensor. Quite useful. The automatic display back lighting
turns itself on only when there is something on the scale.
If not, the back light goes off again. There is a bar display on the side
of the main display indicating the overall weight on the scale so you see
how close you are to the 700g limit. The buttons are not the usual membrane
button, but they are micro switches with clear click sound when pressed
and strong tactile feedback.

So why to give it 3 stars only? Two issues:

-- Very loud beep when any button is pressed, impossible to turn off
-- Non-existent customer support by the manufacturer

As a feature the scale includes a very loud "fire alarm" like buzzer
intended to notify the user about an overload when more 700g is put
on the scale. Unfortunately, the same buzzer sounds as long as any
button is pressed. It is not a short beep -- as long as you keep
the button pressed, the buzzer sounds. It is really loud and alarm
sounding. The sound is not necessary, since the buttons have nice
tactile feedback.

I tried to contact MyWeigh to ask whether it was possible to configure
the scale to turn the push button beep off, as it is possible on their
other and older models. In a period of 2 weeks I tried to fill their
web page form twice (no response), send an e-mail to their info
box (the e-mail bounded as undeliverable) and tried to leave a message
on their answering machine (after a long introduction to go to the web
or to send e-mail I got to the phone message box only to hear a beep and
a message that their message box was full and could not accept any
new messages).

Then I called the seller, Old Will Knott Scales, they confirmed
very quickly that it was not possible to turn the buzzer off.

With a little soldering skill you can remove the buzzer -- it is mounted
upside down behind the display, so after unscrewing 4 bottom screws
one gets the opening wide enough to reach there with soldering
iron and get rid of the buzzer.

To summarize: If you are not bothered by the annoying beep sound
every time you touch a button, it would be a good scale. I kept
it after the modification.

Mostly Good....

I bought my i700 in Jan of 2011 (from Old Will Knott) and it has been perfect up to now. The problem: the hinge on the cover broke, one side so far. Now this is minor, I can still use it, the beep does not bother me. I use it daily to weigh my espresso shots. On second thought the display sometimes flits around, up and down a few digits but settles down with a press of the zero button, don't know if this portends a future breakdown but I'll keep an eye on it.
