'A dark journey into the light' goes well beyond expectations, giving out a brilliant, clear picture of challenges young people face when self identity clashes with the norms of the society and social consciousness. Modulated with infinite care, evocation and intricate narration author delivers a wild ride immersing his readers through his brutally honest memoir that is absolutely unique and engrossing.
Author Josef Smith has penned a glistering read, supplying his own visual accompaniment and experiences that complement the profound exploration of human conditions. This book is definitely a powerful page turner that will resonate with readers long after the last page has been turned. Original in concept and a remarkable work of well rounded consciousness, authors autobiography is surely worthy of appreciation by mature, open minded adults. Highly recommended.
A Dark Journey into the Light by Josef is a brutally honest autobiography of a man's journey in search of himself, a journey to redefine himself. It is dark, troubling, but illuminating; a story that will help others look at their lives with brutal honesty.
With unwonted candor, Josef shares his secret with readers, a habit that entered his life from his early years of childhood. He shares his addiction to sex, the internal conflict resulting from being everything against the values preached by the Catholic Church and the views of his mother. Over the years, he'd get to explore and indulge in his sexual fantasies.
But his secret sexual adventures take a terrible toll on him: his marriage suffers, he loses a son, and the nauseating sense of guilt eats him from deep within. Can he find redemption?
This is a story that will resonate with many people. It takes a lot of courage to walk and share Josef's story. I enjoyed the fact that he came to a point where he decided to seek professional help, a point where he chose to be honest with himself. This book isn't just about sharing the darkness of his soul, but how he found the light, how he came to accept himself and start on the journey towards compassion.
A Dark Journey into the Light is well-written, at times troubling, but so deeply touching. From the very start of the story, he writes: "All my life I've wished for nothing more than just to be normal, as I've looked around and envied other people's untroubled lives." One immediately senses the inner pain he bears, but his journey towards freedom and light has many lessons for readers.
About the Author
Life became an exercise inlearning about myself by exploring what "lies beneath" as it rearedit's head and found it's way to the surface. There was no way around theexploration because the battle for supremacy raging between the two was insideme. What was the war all about and what would become of me? I am so much morethan what I feel, and much, much less than what I think. This book is myjourney of continuing self-discovery as I move through the mystery we calllife.
The book is anautobiography so it's pretty much all about me and who I am. I suppose thereare a few small things that aren't covered. For instance, I like dogs andhorses and I love gardening. I'm a country boy and grew up with spiders andsnakes, and although I'm not keen on spiders if one crawls up my trouser legthey don't freak me out either. A snake up the trouser leg though would be adifferent story! Think "a hillbilly version of River Dance." I love long hikesover the mountains or across the plains. It clears my mind.
A Dark Journey IntoThe Light is an interesting and thought provoking book for anyone who has everquestioned urges and desires familiar to us all. It provides interestinginsights into the workings of the mind of a sex addict. We are much more thanwhat we feel, and less than what we think. This book explores what is possiblewhen we find balance between the two.
