Marty Wingate is the author of two mystery series from Penguin Random House/Alibi: the Potting Shed books, about Pru Parke, middle-aged American gardener moved to England, and Birds of a Feather, which follows the adventures of Julia Lanchester who is the daughter of a celebrity ornithologist and runs the tourist information center in a Suffolk village.
Marty speaks at national events, and also writes about gardens and travel.
She is a member of the Mystery Writers of America, Sisters in Crime, and the UK Crime Writers' Association, as well as the Royal Horticultural Society and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. She leads small-group garden tours to European destinations including England, Scotland, Ireland, France, and also on North American journeys. Marty doesn't believe that the thin veneer of tourism - successive one-night stops in a series of hotels - can ever replace getting to know the people, history and culture of a region, and so, when arranging her tours, she always includes time for a cup of tea, a pint of beer, or a glass of wine.
