I write to encourage, enlighten, and entertain. Reader, I hope you find a friend on every page!
When I was a child, I often shopped at the Sevierville, Tennessee Kmart department store with my mother. During each visit, I listened intently for an East Tennessee twang to broadcast over the loud speaker and say "Attention Kmart shoppers, the blue light special is...." When I heard those messages, I rushed to the pulsing blue light to see what helpful piece of merchandise was marked down and up for grabs.
I went through the gauntlet to add a second child to my family, and I know many of you can relate. If you are affected by infertility or adoption, I wrote our story, The Eye of Adoption, for you.
As a high school teacher, I was constantly intrigued by the unique situations my students created and encountered. Young people's problems, ideas, and experiences are often profound. With humor and anecdotes, I crafted Field Day and Parents, Stop and Think to honor the issues students and parents face.
To inspire students to test the waters of creative writing and real-world publishing, I created the Student Anthology Project—a 21st Century Classroom experience that turns young men and women into published authors. Teachers, please reach out to me if you'd like more information.
Through my humor book, Theories: Size 12, Go On, Get Mad, But You Know You Agree, I relate to readers by finding laughable moments in every day life.
So friends, I would like to broadcast in my own East Tennessee twang, "Attention shoppers, please consider reading my work and sharing it with others."
Note: I know that most author pages are written in third person, but that does not match the direct, down-to-earth tone of my stories and books.
I love learning from readers. Let's talk!
