I’m Kerri Morrone Sparling and I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in September of 1986. For much of my life, I was the only diabetic I knew. Thankfully, that’s not the case anymore.
I started writing www.SixUntilMe.com in May of 2005 because I was tired of Googling “diabetes” and coming up with little more than a list of complications and frightening stories. Where were all the people who were living with this disease, like I have been since I was a little girl? Was I the only diabetic out there who felt the isolation of chronic illness?
But then I learned about blogs, and the power of sharing our stories online. Back when I first started blogging, I was one of four or five diabetes bloggers. Now I am a proud member of a vast diabetes community who prove every day that I’m not alone with this disease.
I am a writer, speaker, and consultant. I live in Rhode Island with my husband, Chris, and our daughter. There are a few cats rolling around the place, and we have our share of wildlife in the backyard (hedgehog, really aggressive bluejays, and our neighbor's angry tomcat). I like to go to the beach with my daughter, run (and have yet to fall in a ditch), and I know my way around a skein of yarn.
I also think most bios are boring, so I’m going to stop this one here.
