Grace is a wonderful and strong young woman who has an amazing friendship and relationship with her mother who had her really young.
Grace and Sol have known each other for eight years but haven’t talked a lot. It all consisted of hidden glances at one another but even there I could feel their interest and admiration for one another.
Before they form a friendship they’re both people who have a few friends and keep to themselves. Sol finally takes a chance and talks to the girl he’s been fascinated with for eight years and it changes them both irrevocably.
I really enjoyed how their friendship slowly blossomed and evolved into more. It’s not one sided. They’re both so infatuated with one another and it was intoxicating watching them struggle with their feelings and just wanting to give in. The connection, heat and chemistry between them is intoxicating. I got goosebumps just being in their presence.
They become each other’s confidants, best friends and most of all they fall head over heels in love. It’s a beautiful yet frustrating story because I felt and understood Sol’s dilemma. His faith in God, the path he’s chosen and how much both he and Grace struggled with it and tried to accept it.
Grace evolves so much throughout their relationship and voices her opinion about their relationship. She loves Sol and just wants to support him even if it breaks her heart.
Ivan and MJ aka Mary Jane are their friends and they’re an incredible support when it really matters. Especially MJ brings out a lighter side to Grace.
Autumn Grey has created an intense and captivating story about love, friendship and faith. Her characters carry the story beautifully. It’s exciting and intense following Sol struggle with his decision and with Grace wanting him so much and again just wanting to do the right thing. Their love is all consuming. It’s compelling and flawless storytelling. I just wanted more of Sol and Grace. More words from Autumn Grey.
Desolate is just the beginning of this enthralling and emotional story of Sol and Grace. The ending only left me wanting so much more. I’m beyond ready for Disgraceful.
5 Sin With Sol Stars
Desolate explores that thought with Sol & Grace in such a captivating and beautiful way. I was instantly drawn into this story and I just fell for both characters every step they took. I loved seeing the friendship blossom into something more, even when they both knew the risks they were taking. The passion and intensity Sol & Grace felt for one another surpassed anything else that they had ever felt, but ultimately.....would that be enough to overcome Sol's passion for the Lord?
This story is just so wonderful and amazing, and I can't even put into words how much I love these characters. Looking forward to part 2 of this trilogy and continuing this journey with Sol & Grace.
Solomon Callan and Grace Miller met during mass at a church where Sol's Uncle Luke was a priest. Luke was also Sol's guardian after the death of his parents. He also lived with him at the church rectory. Even at his young age he knew he wanted to be just like his uncle. And even at his age, he understood that priest's shouldn't have girlfriends or wives. That they promise to be faithful to God and only God. His uncle explained that to him one day, when he had asked his uncle why he wasn't married or didn't date. But when the most beautiful young girl approached Sol because she felt his sorrow, she assured him that things would be alright. She also gave him her flower because she said he needed it more than she did. It also was the day that Sol gave Grace a piece of his heart.
Years would pass by with nothing more then stolen glances. His whole body would react at the mere sight of her, and he was losing a fight with his heart and mind to have the power to resist her. Grace also is living in her own world and ignoring everyone, ignoring the loneliness. But she is aware when ever Sol is near. One day they decide to “be friends” and steal away to Ranger's Cove. Together they feel relaxed and happy. It is surreal! Yet, when they say good-bye at the end of the day, that is when the confidence and elation he felt around Grace fades fast and guilt moves in. Grace knows they are not in a relationship, at least not the one her heart craves. She doesn't even know when her feelings went from really liking Sol to love. Her feelings are returned, but they know they are not meant to happen. He will be leaving for St. Bernard Seminary. This just won't be goodbye but their end.
Sol had wanted God. And he also wanted Grace. He had wanted something so badly, but something that was in complete opposition to the initial longing had come along. Suddenly he was forced to choose between the two. Their complicated love affair will continue. So I hope Book #2 comes out real fast.
Top international reviews
Firstly I want to say that Solomon is my new favourite leading man. His innocence, gentleness & forbidden longing was so beautifully written, that I couldn’t help but love hard on this sweet boy, who became a heartachingly gorgeous young man. I felt his pain & vulnerability, I got lost in his war, & I made sure I held his heart as close as I could to mine, promising to keep it & him safe. He stole a piece of me during this story that I don’t think I’ll ever get back & I love that it was him that took it.
And then we have Gracie & oh how I loved this wonderful girl. Fighting her own struggles, yet still strong enough & brave enough to place her heart on the line, especially knowing the battle that lies ahead. I loved how unaware she is of her beauty, how beautiful & kind her spirit is & just how much her innocent heart & equally innocent love, matched that of the boy who had such sadness in his eyes, Sol.
Autumn has taken her writing to another level with this story. The angst at times was too much for my poor battered heart. The turmoil & struggle of Sol’s inner battles had me gripping my chest, hurting for him through such exquisite words. Every scene slowly wrung my emotions dry, knowing the ending was drawing near, but never quite wanting to get there. I could have gladly stayed in their world for an eternity. I miss them already.
A top read of 2018 for me. I can’t wait to see what follows for Sol & Grace in book 2 & 3.i know it’s going to be special.
A prodigious, heart-rending, poignant read that is wicked luscious.
Desolate is the 1st novel in this must read NA trilogy series.
Solomon Callan (Sol) and Grace Miller are highly compelling, sagacious, flawed and lovable character's. With a set of vital supporting character's that accentuates the story.
A young male at cross roads, a young female who is unsure of what her future holds.
A beautiful slow burning romance that will shatter your heart and soul into pieces.
The writing style brings to light & showcases this authors talent.
I'm about to blow a gasket as I need book two in this trilogy right now. Indulge yourself with this pulse racing, heart pounding read.
