I just finished reading this book (free on kindle). I read all the reviews about it, and having just finished it, I'd like not only to review it but respond to some of the negative reviews it's received.

First, a review:

This book sets out the gospel message and explains it easily, the "gospel", or "good news", being that Jesus has died and risen to pay the price for humanity's sins and to defeat death. The author explains this message using clear speech and ample analogies and examples, stories that connect to people's lives or imaginations. This style is, really, similar to Jesus himself explaining his message by telling stories (parables) that connected to the people's daily lives. For those who are seeking and have questions about Christianity, for those who are new Christians, and for Christians who have become weighed down by being taught or otherwise coming to believe that they must be good and add good works to their faith or else God will no longer be pleased with or love them, this book could be very helpful as a starting point. For other Christians, it can be an encouragement, a reminder, or a source to use with their friends who might have questions.

The book is short, which, for it's purpose, is good. It's not supposed to be a detailed discourse on the finer points of doctrine (which many denominations differ on, anyway). It's an introduction to the gospel, and it serves that purpose well.

The only downside of the book is that the author uses an old, difficult to understand version of the Bible for quotations; it would be much better if he updated to something like the NIV or NLT.

Finally, this book, again, is an introduction.

"... your conscience proves your soul's existence."

I've read a lot of books on the salvation message but few have been quite so clear and convincing. In a matter of minutes you will read about how you can know for sure that you will spend eternity in heaven. Cary Schmidt's book presents logical arguments and explains how you can get over your fear of death. He explains how most religions are "do" religions where you have to work for your salvation. After explaining why you can't work your way to heaven with good deeds he explains the free gift of God that ensures your everlasting security. I can recommend this book highly to anyone who has a fear of death or who wants to go to heaven when they die. I also think it would be good for Christians who doubt their salvation. I urge you to read this book before you die! Then it will be too late.

I finished reading this book yesterday and have shared my thoughts in multiple forums. I truly enjoyed reading this book, have recommended it to various people (even showed them how to set up the Kindle Reading App. so they could join me in reading this book), and ordered several copies of the physical book for distribution. This is a really wonderful evangelizing tool; one that I sincerely will use. The content is not new; however, it brings these concepts to the forefront of your memory. A truly good read for everyone. It stresses there is nothing to be done by us since Jesus did it all. When He said it is finished, He meant it. Wonderful job, Cary Schmidt!

This book is concise, yet packed with relevant punch! A must-read and/or gift for every agnostic and new Christian! A wonderful, refreshing and UP-Lifting enjoyment for more-seasoned believers. Each of the author's spot-on analogies brought a smile to my face! The author also clarified a couple of key details that have not been clarified via many other sources (e.g., two Christian births: one "by water" is human, physical birth {rather than via immersion baptism as contemplated} and the second, of course, via spiritual rebirth into Christ).

"DONE!" explains what God has DONE for us. We simply have to say, "Yes, Thank You, God!" (or the much better sample prayer that the author includes in the book). :)

I understand there are more than two additional books written by Cary Schmidt... I'm off to search them out right now. Thx, C.S.!!!

I can't say how many people have been helped by this book and received Christ after seeing how it pointed them to Christ and His word! AWESOME!!! It's a great gift for lost friends, family, co-workers, neighbors, etc. It's a great supplemental tool for witnessing to them and can help bring on or restart spiritual conversation about salvation.
