Auguries of Innocence is the first book of poetry from Patti Smith in more than a decade. It marks a major accomplishment from a poet and performer who has inscribed her vision of our world in powerful anthems, ballads, and lyrics. In this intimate and searing collection of poems, Smith joins in that great tradition of troubadours, journeymen, wordsmiths, and artists who respond to the world around them in fresh and original language. Her influences are eclectic and striking: Blake, Rimbaud, Picasso, Arbus, and Johnny Appleseed. Smith is an American original; her poems are oracles for our times.

"All the Little Raindrops: A Novel" by Mia Sheridan for $10.39

Auguries of Innocence: Poems is a fantastic collection of pomes by Patti Smith. I highly rcomend this book of her pomes to anyone who love great classic poetry. I have started to listen to her and her band rekindaling that great feeling I got when I listen to her works.

Branded The Queen God Mother of Punk Rock Patti never fails to give the reader or listener a great expeiance! Her songs and poetry are great paintings on a often times bleak canvas. Patti's art is a breath of fresh air. If you have never looked into her before do yourself a favor buy this book.

Because I have read nearly all of Patti Smith's memoirs and loved their poetic style, it would stand to reason that I would enjoy this book of poetry. The equation is a bit different when someone is writing actual poetry rather than an essay suffused with poetic writing. Although the results are uneven, I still celebrate this book.

Certainly, it overflows with a variety of subjects: childhood memories, eulogies, Christian references, commentary of war, artistic and literary figures, and more. Smith hits some high points. For instance, "The Mast is Down" floats expertly between body image, sea, and sky.

This book was very well written. Some of the poems were beautiful. Some of them were very aggressive and scary. However, I wish to have this book on my bookshelf one of these days. I would reconsider reading this book again, and would recommend this book to those who like Patti Smith.

Patti's writing, both credible and competent, structured far more conventional than I expected, reading more like an homage to tradition than a confrontation towards form.

Lovely built book and a beautiful collection of poems - poems that would be just as good even if the name Patti Smith we’re not attached - some wonderful imagery and as you’d expect a clear and ringing voice
