This reference book is to the engineering profession what "Roark's Formulas for Stress and Strain"* is to strength of materials, only better; it's less than half the size. A goodly portion of the book is devoted to an unbelievably complete collection of chapters on mathematics which, as most engineers know, will come in extremely handy sooner or later. There is extensive information here on: statics; kinematics; dynamics; hydraulics; heat; strength; machine parts; production engineering; electrical engineering; and control engineering. There are even chapters on chemistry and radiation physics, units, solid bodies and areas. Prior to the Index, there are Tables and Tables of properties and values, just in case, say, you forgot the coefficient of expansion for molybdenum. Most (but not all) of the left-hand pages are blank; handy for jotting down notes. This is an excellent collection of technical data, formulae, and facts. It is always in my briefcase. I would not go to a meeting or to any on-site project without it.

This book includes all of the most standard and useful formulas from all of the major fields of Engineering, including Strength, Geometry, Mechanical, Heat, Kinematics, Electrical, and Chemical, as well as legends and tables of alphabetic symbols and discipline specific symbols and conversion charts. It is a true pocket or field reference in that it is a sturdy hard cover bound book not much larger than a large human hand palm and about 2.5 inches in thickness. I personally did not find the print to be too small for the naked eye, but after a long day or in the wrong light one might benefit from a magnifying glass to read through it without effort. I highly recommend it for anyone with interest in Engineering Formulas.

I love this book. I have it sitting in my office. One of my colleagues wanted one. I got on here to check the availability and my jaw dropped when I saw the price. I think I paid 20 dollars for mine? I guess I will hold onto it like it’s made of gold.

It is a good book though. I don’t use mine enough to justify paying that price for it but it is a good book.

It is so handy !!!

A pity that the publisher took the electronic version off the market.

We have worked with that electronic version and the booklet
for many, many years.

Bought the new booklet because the old one was already 22 years old and was falling apart.

One could say, I was "married" with that booklet during my carrier.

This engineering reference is perfect for engineering students and engineers. The sections are thoughtfully organized and all equations are easy to find and read. This compact book is much better than lugging around a textbook. All the information is there, the book is smaller and more densely packed with information and you don't have to spend ten minutes searching through some overdone, convoluted textbook to get the information you need. I use this book all the time and highly recommend it.

It was sealed in cellophane, and it had a large crease on the front. It gives the impression it can be removed with work, or you just ignore it; however, the front is broken, and non repairable! The size is small, and that is just what I like! The updates are important, and very useable by any struggling engineer, math, or physics nut - Geeko ( in America )! Anyone ( I guess ) can live with its light printing, and mind you, only in the areas of new data - remember Germany apparently is also under water!

This little book is a good tool to add to your tool box. It has a fairly complete tabulation of formulas and even goes into some depth explaining them, but not too much. The only reason it got 4 vs 5 stars for the rating was that the index is not cross referenced. I got the book as an aid for my first attempt at the PE Exam, and it earned its way on several questions- mechanics of materials especially. I strongly recommend this book to anyone in engineering who needs a pocket guide.

My first encounter with Gieck's pocket books was in Germany, where I bought the book "Gieck, Technische Formelsammlung". Later when I returned home, I purchased the English Edition of the 1974 "Gieck Engineering Formulas". This new edition is very much extended, taking in more areas. One must remember that this pocket book is a collection of formulas only. It is a reminder or reference source. Some previous knowledge is required. It is concise and very informative. It is a book to keep nearby at all times.

Lots of formulas but you don't always find exactly what you need

This book was recommended for a course I took (integrated problem solving in energy). It's a combination of thermomechanical and electrical engineering. Some of the electrical formulas I needed I didn't find in there. It's also insufficient to do more detailed flow calculations. In general it can be useful though, depends on the depth of your courses.
