- Reviewed in the United States on January 14, 2021This is the best children’s book ever. Both of my children read it when they were little. My oldest one is now 22. This book is fun for the kids and the grownups you just gonna have to act it out. We laughed every time we read it. The book is easy enough for the kids to memorize and so both my kids learn how to read using this book. They knew the words and would just follow along.
This time I ordered the book for my niece and I got some really great feedback. Both my knees and her parents loved reading it.
One more bonus is that on those nights when you really don’t have the time and are too tired to read but the child is really asking for one more story this book is very short but still a lot of fun.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 19, 2022I know this looks like a book for little kids, but this book had my whole 5th grade gifted class laughing out loud. I used this book to teach about making inferences. A great resource I will use every year!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 9, 2012The FUNNIEST book I EVER read with my daughter.
We laughed out loud at bedtime again and again (which, by the way, may really help with some young one's sleep).
It's like an "inside joke book for kindergartners".
When they are old enough to read, they are also at the age when they get to know other children's behaviors. Some not so good.
These are some of their thoughts that they may not share openly, but secretly think.
It's honest.
Excellent illustrations are another twist and also a nod to Dick and Jane books.
Too funny. A classic.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 3, 2007I think this book is hilarious and first bought it about 10 years ago for my daughter, who was then age 5. She loved the offbeat humor and that the Hocky family was a little bit different and quirky, much like her own family. Honestly, I would not hesitate to read this silly book to a younger child and, if it seems that the child might become frightened about the montster allusion, I'd just change the words so that it's not scary -- that's the beauty of reading to small children who have not yet learned how to read: they won't know if you change it up a little bit.
