I sympathize with all the heartaches that the author has faced but not how she chose to deal with the issues. I know many folks who have suffered from racism, drugs, abuse and failed relationships. I am child who was a product of the 6o's so I know first hand about a lot of these experiences. With all of her drug abuse, I began to wonder if some of the minute details was a little out of place. The story only got better when she encounters many of her love ones and friends dying. Many times through this work, I wanted to slap her for her involvement with certain men- hoping that she would get a clue.
Many times, the book is a tad too philosophical for me. She went from living a life that she could easily be accepted by white to a despise of all. She seem to have spent a lot of her life being confused and searching for love from males . She spends so much time running away from her family only to need them much later. I still cannot buy her theory of drug abuse and yet become so functional, what about her drawbacks, etc.---- is the drugs distorting her memory again? Again, how was she able to obtain so much fortunes with such low paying wages (according to her) and afford to send her daughter to college? I can't put my foot on exactly what is wrong with the delivery other than the fact that is boring because it has no spice, real drama expense or expectations and I grew tired reading and just hoping that it would soon end.
