"Michael Kuo offers an engaging survey of a diverse group of fungi whose fruiting bodies are among the most prized edible mushrooms. Morels is a lavishly illustrated poem that will be relished by amateur and professional mycologists alike."
—Nicholas P. Money, author of Mr. Bloomfield's Orchard: The Mysterious World of Mushrooms, Molds, and Mycologists
". . . Michael Kuo brings years of morel-hunting experience to his Morels. . . . Details go beyond most competing identification guides to cover how to look for them, the latest scientific research on how they grow and DNA-based classification of species, habitats from apple orchards to burn sites, and morel festivals and cooking competitions. Add color photos and first-person insights throughout and you have a pairing of research and field guide unparalleled in depth and accessibility."
—Midwest Book Review
"Kuo's comprehensive monograph on a foolproof fungus of outstanding flavor should bring more pickers into the fields (alas). . . . His book will stand alone for years as the authority on natural history and gathering. He covers false morels, habitats, hunting and feasting, the addicts—theory-wise looney—including speculation on culture of this mysterious delight. . . . A book of wide appeal."
—SciTech Book News
"This beautiful book would be a treasure to add to the bookshelf of anyone who loves mushrooms, but it is of particular interest to mycologists and mushroom hunters everywhere."

You can expect quality descriptions of many species within the Morchella genus with maps of their distribution, a surprisingly fascinating chapter on the False Morel (and why you should NEVER eat them), interesting history and taxonomy, hilarious personal reflections that will make you laugh, recipes, methods of preparation and preservation, detailed advice on where and when to search, all printed on quality paper stock with great color photographs. There is only one downside to buying this book, you will want to buy a time machine and fast forward to the end of April.
We love everything morel and loved this book.
It is a nice addition for not scientific morel hunters. If you just want to learn and hunt morels it is a good start!
If you are looking for complicated scientific names and discussion - this is not for you.
I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn about morels 101.
Glad I bought it.
