"Lucy's Story", the second of "The Caretaker of Imagination" series, finds the niece of the first book's protagonist a little bit older and, like her uncle John in the first book, under pressure from her mother to put aside her imagination to concentrate on the responsibilities of her upcoming adulthood. But the powers of her imagination are not to be denied. In fact, they exact a toll that changes everything in Lucy's life.
Thus begins an odyssey for Lucy, as she travels on a magical train filled with fanciful creatures to a place called the Galaxy Tower, where she learns that a story she had started has led to the seeming end to her world. Not only that, but monsters she created with her imagination become very real and set out after her.
I love this series because Z. R. Southcombe never talks down to her target readers, which are children. She shows them that actions, intentional or not, have consequences that need to be dealt with. She also shows them that imagination is, indeed, a powerful attribute to have, and that it can accomplish much more good than bad.
The author's voice flows beautifully off the pages. This is a book that begs to be read aloud. I can't wait for the next book!
