The Way The Sky Curves (Kotahi Bay) (Volume 1) Paperback

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 21 ratings

Melody is running away again, but this time she can’t hide from the truth.

Melody had found a safe place with Robbie, at least she’d thought so. When it turns out he’s been abusing her, she taps into powers she’d convinced herself only existed in her imagination and escapes. On the run again, she heads to the only other home she’s had - her estranged family in Kotahi Bay.

Noah can taste the magic emanating from Melody the moment he meets her, but he’s tempted by more than just that. She might be sarcastic and quick to bite, but he can see the raw vulnerability beneath and can’t help but be drawn to her. The only problem is that he’s got secrets too, and if he lets them slip she’ll never trust him again.

Betrayed and isolated, Melody must accept the truth of what she is, and harness the power of the wind before Robbie destroys her family, and her life.

The Way the Sky Curves is the first book in the gripping Kotahi Bay series by J.C. Hart. If you like evocative paranormal romance with dark undertones then grab your copy and discover the Bay for yourself.

Running from an abusive past, Melody finds herself imprisoned in yet another abusive relationship, forcing her to run again, into the arms of another man, who might turn out to be even worse. Darker than the cover suggests, with a serious theme and tumultuous paranormal undertones, this gripping little read can be devoured in an evening. (Set aside an entire evening because you won't want to put it down.) Given its small town New Zealand setting, family connections, and nod to mythology, The Way the Sky Curves shares many of the best elements of Darian Smith's bestselling novel, Currents of Change, and the writing, while different, is equally evocative, so if you loved Currents of Change, then you should make The Way the Sky Curves your next read....

The Way the Sky Curves is a delicious novella set in J.C. Hart's Kotahi Bay world.

I was expecting, well I don't know what I was expecting other than book similar to In the Spirit. This novella, however is even more fast-paced, more dark and more sexy than In the Spirit.

Melody, the main character, gets the short end of the stick in Life. She goes from an abusive childhood life to a suddenly abusive boyfriend. At the beginning of the novella, she tosses her nemesis off a cliff (!!!) and runs back home to Kotahi Bay, and that's where the story starts in earnest.

I have to say I was quite smitten with Melody. She has a temper, comes dripped in sarcasm and is quick to take off her dress when she decides to go after someone she wants. Yet she is also kind and thoughtful, and learns some harsh lessons about running away from trouble rather than facing it.

Like In the Spirit, there is an undercurrent of a lot of world-building that we haven't seen yet in the series, but unlike In the Spirit, there are some characters living in Kotahi Bay that are just as interesting as Melody herself.

I'm really digging this series so far! Highly Recommended.

What a bummer. This story has some amazing incredible bones. The Maori mythology, the feisty h, but dang this was a poorly told and incredibly rushed story. Even as a novella - it fails. So disappointed - especially since i could see the potential.

I really enjoy JC Harts writing and she just keeps getting better. Wanted Book 2 as soon as I'd finished book 1, and that is a good indication for me of quality writing. Also enjoy this genre.
