Dr Goldman's introduction is a great balance of biography, literary analysis and recommendations for other avenues of interest/research. Her analyses of Woolf's literary and critical views are in themselves scintillating, yet her approach is always open and receptive to further critical interpretation.
As an academic scholar - studying Woolf's work - I found this invaluable. However, Goldman writes in a style that alerts readers at any level to the richness of Woolf's work and offers a fascinating account of a influential author. But be aware : Woolf scholarship is highly addictive. This Introduction leads you through the work of a Modernist writer, and if you're as sharp as Dr Goldman, if you follow just one of the many routes of investigation that she suggests, you will be rewarded a hundred times over.
