FYI this is the only book series I reread every year during winter. Brings back so much joy!!
But the first world has greater armies and stronger magic. How can the world being attacked win out?
I guess we learn that in future volumes of the trilogy. Stay tuned.
Top reviews from other countries
I first read these books back in the 1980s, when they were first published, & read them over many times. Having returned to them, nearly 40 years later, they have generally stood the test of time & are remarkably well written (allowing for the North American lack of use of prepositions & other little variants). The, effectively, medieval setting, with women generally wearing long skirts & riding sidesaddle, does limit the scope of the female characters & so cast them in supporting roles, rather than the main protagonists. I remember thinking the same when I read these books all those years ago, which may be why I actually preferred th Empire series, but I am still captivated by the characters of Midkemia & enjoy their stories.
