"Cult Child" tells the real life story of author, Vennie Kocsis. At three years of age, she was taken by her mother into a violent cult, Sam Fife's Move of God. Written in first person voice, "Cult Child" is an in depth look at childhood near death experience from abuse, as well as the experience of growing up in two remote cult compounds.
"Poignant, gripping and ultimately triumphant, Vennie Kocsis' "Cult Child" will leave you inspired by the pure strength of will that children use to cope themselves through trauma. Her fortress is no bigger than the space between her ears; but through quiet internal resistance, Sila halts her opponents and outlasts their ten year siege." Dolon Hickmon, author of "13:24".

I found this book difficult to read, not because of the expected dark content, but because of the spelling and grammatical errors, as well as awkward sentence structure. A good editor would make a world of difference in the reading experience.
While Kocsis provides a lot of detail on the abuse she suffered, primarily sexual, there's nothing here on the actual cult. What and when did they worship? How did they recruit? What did they believe? I still don't know because none of this is shared. Her life with these people, aside from the abuse, is vague at best.
The ending is abrupt, sort of like letting a bird out of a cage. One minute she's in the cult. The next minute she's not. End of book.
I truly feel for this woman. What she went through at the hands of her own mother, along with this cult, is difficult for most of us to comprehend. This book, though, isn't one I can recommend on the topic.
I'm proud of the Author for rising up and I want to thank her for telling her story. She matters.
A special message to the little girl that the Author used to be.. from the little girl that I used to be:
~ The trees we relied on for those rare moments of peace may be gone from this earth,
so we shall let every tree we see remind us of our growth, our power, and our worth. ~
Editing to add 2 examples I just found while trying to continue reading.
Examples:
P.67 “She feels gentle, thought, and seems to have taken a real liking to me.”
P.69 “It is afternoon and everyone from the farm is gathered together gravel driveway by the Tabernacle.”
I’m calling it quits on this one.
As I read, I wanted to take up this child in my arms and hug her and tell her everything was going to be OK. She would have known I was lying, but probably appreciated it at the moment. There were times when she was so desperately injured no one could touch her without inflicting pain. Other times, her soul was deeply wounded.
In spite of a childhood riddled with emotional and physical pain, Vennie Kocsis found healing. Now she courageously tells her story, familiar to too many people, with the passion of passing this example of healing onto others.
It's one thing to write a great book. It's another to write a great book about your own life in a manner so compelling that the reader is captivated from the first page to the last picture.
Well done
