Diane Devereaux, The Canning Diva®, is an internationally syndicated food preservation expert, author, television presenter, instructor and mother of two. Since 2012, Devereaux has been sharing her lifetime passion of canning and food preservation, translating it to the busy lives of families across the globe.

Diane Devereaux started home canning at the young age of 13 and was soon growing and maintaining her own garden. The experience quickly taught her the many benefits of natural pest control, crop rotation and healthy soil factors, heirloom seed production and collection, healthy meal creation, and of course, preserving her garden’s beautiful bounty.

She received her bachelor’s in international business from Davenport University and later plunged into a career in disaster management, where she applied her skills in food preservation, survival and sustainability to those in crisis. Her background in home canning combined with her tenure in disaster management led Diane to create The Canning Diva®, where she blended her passion for gardening and preserving with her knowledge of preparedness and self-reliance.

Accomplishments:

Diane has authored five books;

- IPPY Award Winning Canning Full Circle: From Garden to Jar to Table and its second edition Revised and Expanded version,

- #1 in America The Complete Guide to Pressure Canning: Everything You Need to Know to Can Meats, Vegetables, Meals in a Jar and More,

- Beginner’s Guide to Canning: 90 Easy Recipes to Can, Savor and Gift, and

- The Canning Diva® Presents Meals in a Jar: The Ultimate Guide to Pressure Canning Ready-Made Meals, which is set to launch August 6, 2024.

The Canning Diva® has made several TV appearances on WZZM Channel 13 Healthy You, WOODTV8 Eight West, WZZM Take Five & Company, FOX17 and CBS Detroit News demonstrating home canning techniques and signature recipes.

She’s was a host on The Survival Mom Radio Network and Prepper Broadcasting and later started her own successful podcast, Canning with The Diva!™, where tens of thousands subscribers learn vital food preservation techniques, methods and recipes.

Diane has been featured in magazines such as Woman’s Lifestyle, Diets in Review, and West Michigan Business. She has also published articles in A Healthier Michigan, Awesome Mitten, West Michigan Health and The Green Result.

Diane’s Philosophy:

With fast food, microwaved meals and other preservative-laden “convenience foods” becoming the norm for society, the natural practice of canning is becoming a lost art. Now as food culture centers back to the importance of clean eating and healthy living, Diane Devereaux champions the practice of growing your own food, preserving your harvest and knowing where you food comes from.

An avid supporter of non-GMO seeds, Diane advocates the growth of crops without chemicals, pesticides and genetic manipulation. She is a firm believer in consumers having the right to know the contents of what they ingest and is a proud supporter of honest and forthright labeling of all foods. It is because of this belief she chooses to home can throughout the year to ensure a healthy lifestyle for herself and her family.

Diane has made it her goal to teach the time-honored traditions of canning and food preservation across every corner of the world, which is the driving force of all she creates, writes, and speaks.

Must have canning book!
I love the newest canning book by Canning Diva! All of her books are definitely worth having in your collection. I made 3 recipes this weekend from the newest Meals in a Jar. All 3 are fantastic! We couldn't wait to try the Campfire Breakfast Hash we canned yesterday so we made breakfast tacos Sunday morning. The Beef Barbacoa is in the canner but I did steal a taste as I was filling the jars (meat was slow cooked) and it is absolutely delicious. We also canned the Green Chili w Pork. We love her tomatilla salsa recipe so have no doubt the pork will be a favorite as well. The book is full of international recipes including a chaper on vegetarian recipes. Highly recommend!

This is a great reference book for the beginning canner to learn safe practices. It is also a fun source for many recipes from other countries’ cuisine, as well as American comfort foods. The recipes fill canning jars and after processing go straight to the shelf to be used for a quick dinner.

Started back canning last year and this book was used a lot and again this year! It's helpful, informative and recipes are delicious, only one thing I would point out is if you don't like spicy, cut back on the amount of black pepper she uses!

I like the fact that in this book she gives us a more worldly view of recipes that can be canned I like the fact that she goes into detail about different types of bacteria and why canning properly is important. Some reviewers have pointed out that the recipes are not good for young families because they are so foreign I believe as a mother to a young family, it’s my job to introduce my kids to as many different types of foods as possible, and this book gives easy to follow recipes to can meals in a jar that absolutely, go to for a young family always on the go.

I have been a long time fan of the Canning Diva’s Complete Guide to Pressure Canning, so I knew I needed this book, and boy does it deliver! As a fan of many other cuisines, I’ve long lamented the lack of more internationally focused pressure canning recipes. Meals in a Jar fills this void so well! Not only are there your classics like beef stew, but there are great additions like Chana Masala, Israeli Eggplant with Lamb, and Beef Barbacoa. Wahoo!!! Another cool aspect is that some of the recipes don’t require a liquid ladled over the top, so now all your pressure canning recipes don’t have to be stews (yay! I mean I love a stew but still). This really opens up a whole new world of canning for me. I can’t wait to crack open a jar of Korean Bulgogi beef or Thai Larb Gai! While I haven’t yet canned any of these recipes, I know the Diva will deliver. I’ve canned so many of her other dishes so I’m confident these will be new, tasty, and interesting additions to my canning repertoire!

I found this book to be resourceful for those who may be new to canning, however the reason I bought 2 of these books was for the Meal in Jar ideas. 1 book for my friend as a gift and the other for me and my family!!
The layout of this book is fantastic and not only are there a great variety of meal ideas, they are nicely laid out in categories. Who doesn't want some Asian flare, or unique flavours from the Middle East and Mediterranean?? In addition to some awesome new recipes, the Author has provided comfort food in a jar, with stick to the bone hearty traditional meal ideas, perfect for those cool Autumn and Winter days!
I am sure there is many meal ideas in this book that everyone will enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally a canning recipe book that isn't crap :)

I have gotten a few books lately for canning recipes, most of which have been rubbish. This one arrived and I wasn't expecting much. Got a lovely surprise ....stuffed full of recipes and not the usual beef stew, beef soup, chilli, though they are in there, there are a lot of other recipes that I can't wait to try, and to try all of them will take a long time. Which is brill. Highly recommend. The other good book i got on this was "Canning meat" by Harvey Mcalbert. That was a pleasant surprise too. Both my go to's now. Don't know what the fuss about the Ball books are, I don't like them. Am I allowed to say that? Oh well :D
