Clotilde Dusoulier, a native Parisian and passionate explorer of the city’s food scene, has won a tremendous following online with her insider reports and wonderful recipes on her blog, www.chocolateandzucchini.com. Her book, Chocolate and Zucchini, introduced her to a wider, equally enthusiastic audience.

Now in
Clotilde’s Edible Adventures in Paris, Clotilde reveals her all-time favorite food experiences in her native city. She takes us on a mouthwatering tour of the restaurants, markets, and shops she loves the most: from the best places to go for lunch, tea, or a glass of wine, to “neo bistros” and the newest places to find spectacular yet affordable meals. Packed with advice on everything from deciphering a French menu to ordering coffee correctly, this book is like having Clotilde as a personal guide. A dozen tempting recipes are also included, shared or inspired by Clotilde’s favorite chefs and bakers.

For first-time visitors and seasoned travelers alike,
Clotilde’s Edible Adventures in Paris offers invaluable insider recommendations on eating and shopping with Parisian panache.

The best of Paris, featuring 164 restaurants, bistros, wine bars, and
salons de thé, as well as over 130 bakeries, pastry shops, cheese shops, bookstores, chocolate and candy shops, cookware and tableware stores, specialty shops, outdoor markets, and much, much more!

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Dusoulier (Chocolate and Zucchini) combines the best of easy-to-page-through travel guides with the friendly, immediate feel of her charming blog and other Internet resources to provide the ideal foodie's guide to Paris. Dusoulier's inquisitiveness, sharp observation and affection for list-making serve her well in making this culinary heaven seem manageable. Her restaurant recommendations for each of the 20 arrondissements feel fresh and personalized, like tips from a friend, and most are relatively affordable if one follows Dusoulier's advice for when and what to eat. She also includes a welcome range of cuisines, unlike many Paris guides; boxed sections feature Japanese, Indian and Chinese quarters of the city, with food from numerous other nations sprinkled throughout, but she doesn't neglect classic brasseries and neo-bistros. Nearly as valuable as the lists are Dusoulier's pointers on reading menus, how to treat the staff and French restaurant quirks. The book's second half features judiciously selected markets, bakeries, cheese shops and other specialty outlets; again, international travelers will be gratified by her attention to non-French stores as well as those selling the best escargots, honey and wine from around the country. Topping off the book, a dozen intriguing recipes. (Apr.)

Valuable guidebook packed with useful information!
5 out of 5 stars
Valuable guidebook packed with useful information!
First off, I am still toting around the first edition that I bought before my first trip to France. Yes, some of the bonnes adresses are out-of-date. That is expected eleven years after publication and thirteen years after initial research for the book began. What hasn’t gone out-of-date though are the many recipes, culinary background notes and practical information about how to go about finding and dining in good establishments in Paris. Guidebook sized, Clotilde has assembled a host of practical information, added in restaurant recommendations for most arrondissements and finished by scattering recipes throughout, which will let you recreate your memories of your Parisian holiday at home. For the more recipe focused, I can recommend her other books strongly.

Clotilde's delightful book is proof - if needed - that shopping for food - whether it be to eat oneself or to give as gifts - can be great fun. She writes with such enthusiasm, guiding you around her home town, discovering the little gems which, as a normal tourist, you would be almost sure to miss. How many of us would take the Metro just to buy a loaf of bread?! So why is it that French women are such experts when it comes to shopping for food? For one thing, they pick things up, they smell them, they discuss them with the proprietors. Shopping in France is an art - not just a jostle around the local supermarket where you are strongly advised not to touch! An 'edible adventure' this exciting little book certainly is and I cannot wait to book our next visit to Paris to discover it's other 'works of art' - but this time I will be clutching a hand that knows precisely where to take me! Merci Clotilde!

What I look for in a book like this is a large number and variety of bistros/restaurants reviewed. This book has really doesn't have it, although the descriptions and recommendations are fairly comprehensive. I would not recommend it to anyone going to Paris and wanting to experience its delicious food. You need a book that reviews a lot more bistros/restaurants to get a true choice for yourself.

I read Clotilde's blog and really enjoy it. I thought this book would be more of a non fiction of her experiences in French restaurants, markets and her French kitchen. However it is a guide book to eating in Paris. It won't be too useful for me because I have no plans on visiting Paris but it's fun to reminisce on my time there in the past and dream about my next trip. It's very well written and full of great info. Definitely get this book if you're planning on spending some time in Paris.

I highly recommend this book for anyone going to Paris. This book is amazing. Every restaurant and bakery we visited from her recommendations were great. It helped us avoid those "Tourist Troughs" that are on the major streets. Also the prices for these restaurants were very reasonable.

There can be no better authority about where to shop and eat in Paris than from someone who lives there and is a food writer and cookbook author. So many other travel books seem to be written by tourists. This one will allow you to find those gems that are one or two blocks from the main streets.

As the other reviewers mentioned, the size of this book is perfect for bringing with you. My wife only has a small handbag and it fit in there perfectly. This book made our trip so very special.

I wish there was a version of Clotilde in Rome because we could have certainly used it.

This book wasn't yet available when I visited Paris last month. Clotilde has written the quintessential book for "foodies" who want to experience all Paris has to offer. This book is small (about 5" square) and is just the right size to carry in a purse or backpack. She has visited all of the places she recommendsand there's a great variety of different eateries (ice cream shops, restaurants, candy stores, patisseries, etc). She even explains the difference between bistros, cafes and restaurants. It's a lot easier to peruse a French menu after she explains the "ins and outs" of how to order (and behave) at a restaurant. I wish I'd had this book when I was eating my way through Paris. Be sure to visit her blog [...] for her recipes and insights on the Paris food scene.

While this book offered a few helpful tips on Parisian dining it was simply a list of the author's favorite restaurants. Not worth the price at all. If I could I would return it I would. I was expecting different stories about the author's experiences with Paris cousine. It was such a disappointment.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Addition to a Paris Travel Library
Reviewed in Canada on November 11, 2016
Beautifully written in clear and vibrant prose, Ms. Dusoulier's enthusiasm for her subject is infectious and you'll find yourself booking your flight to Paris before you've finished the first few pages (if you haven't booked it already!). Vegetarians and Vegans will appreciate her research and suggestions of wonderful places to eat out and shop. I enjoyed her chapters on the French dining experience and how to shop for specific items like cheese, meat and charcuterie. Even for seasoned travellers, this book offers plenty of useful and fun information.
The book was a constant companion on our recent trip to the city and the next best thing to a private tour or customized itinerary from the author (which you can book on her website, [...] and also check here for updates and corrections to the book). I, for one, am a huge fan.
