    ビートルズ・ファンにとって、勿論、音楽の新譜はうれしいものですが、新しい本が登場してくるのも、ひとつの大きな楽しみなのです。ビートルズが登場して来た頃、１９６４年頃のことですが、その頃僕は１０歳で小学４年生でした。ちょうど日本ではオリンピックの頃で、僕は何かで知った、三越にビートルズのコーナーが誕生したと言う情報をもとに、両親に頼んで連れて行ってもらったことがあります。その時のことは随分と鮮明に覚えていて、ビートルズの商品は当時輝いて、少年の目には映ったのです。キー・ホルダー（当時はそれが何だか解りませんでした）シール(ただの紙、自分でのりを付ける）とかハンカチ、それに写真（手札判，４つ切り）お皿（ビートルズが印刷されていたもの）それに、ビートルズの洋書、と言っても、せいぜい３２ページ位の薄い写真集）が何種類かありました。洋書は当時、アメリカなどでは安かったのでしょうが、日本ではとても高価なものだったのです。そんな薄い写真集でも２０００円位した記憶があります。当時の２０００円は今の５０００円以上だと思います。そして、そのコーナーの横には、三波春夫の東京オリンピックのレコード、しかも、ピクチュアー・レコードが飾られてあり、その横には美空ひばりのさくらの花をバックにした，ピクチュアー・レコードもあったのです。その時、僕はその写真の色の鮮やかさにとても驚いたものでした。その横にもし、ビートルズのピクチュアー・レコードがあったら、どんなにいいかと思ったものです。僕はビートルズのトランプ（輸出用、日本製）などを買ってもらいました。'　あれから５０年近く時は流れ、今では，ビートルズの洋書をアマゾンで検索すると、とんでもない位の数が発行されています。しかもこの本なども、３００ページ以上もあって、しかも写真がいっぱいはいっていてとても安いのです。５０年近く前のあのコーナーにこの写真集があったら、とても買えないでしょうね。'　いい時代になったのでしょうか、と思いつつ、この本はきっと中国の印刷だと思うのです。それはともかく、この本の表紙の写真を僕はとても気に入っています。カメラマンは巧いです。絶頂期のビートルズの姿を捉えています。面白いのは、ポールとジョージとリンゴが同じ方向を見ているのに、ジョンだけ違う方向を見ているのです。しかも、このジョンの顔を見てください、何だか、甘えん坊の顔をしています。このジョンの見ている先きにはきれいな女性でもいたのでしょうか？でもこの顔は女性というよりはお母さんに甘えてる様な顔に僕は見えるのです。この当時はヨーコは未だ登場していません。いったいだれがいたのでしょうね・・・。ジョンが可愛い頃の写真です。
