My five year old daughter LOVES all the tiny cute creatures she finds in the garden. Needless to say she also loves this book! The large pictures enable her to get a close-up view of her little friends while learning which ones are safe to touch, and which ones to avoid. She knows more about bugs than me, so this gives her a great opportunity to point at the pictures and say, "This one does..." or "That one is..." and as we read on I find she knows exactly what she's talking about :D

There is new information in here for her, as insects she hasn't seen before, like the Floral Mantis, are featured. This book has an intelligent approach, giving facts in short, confident paragraphs that children will remember. The large headings enable early readers to look at the insect names and memorise them.

As an adult artist I will be also using the images here to learn the anatomy of the insects, and its not a bad casual introduction to creepy crawlies for a person of any age. I think this book best suits children from five to eight years. All in all, a great family resource.

What to do with a 4 year old that loves bugs? Buy him the Big Book of Bugs! My grandson loves bugs of any type and kind and most days you can find him in the back yard looking for all sorts of insects. He is very inquisitive of them and bought him this book to further discovery other bugs and creepy crawly things.

This is such a fantastic book! We purchased it for our 4 1/2 yr. old and have had it about 4 months. It has up-close pictures of bugs so you can see body parts. Any time our son has questions we pull the book out to read up on what certain bugs eat and where they live. I do wish it had more information about where they live or maybe even a map. Because he wants to find "creatures" that live in Africa in our yard here in CA. But other than that it's great. It's also HUGE! Which makes it even more fun :) Definitely recommend.
