Dante's life was changed for ever the day his ex-girlfriend, Mel, showed up on his doorstep with a baby. His baby. Being a single parent is the hardest thing he's ever had to do - but Dante held it together, somehow. Now, he can't imagine being without his two-year-old daughter, Emma. So when Mel turns up out of the blue and announces she's come to take their daughter back, he'll do anything to stand in her way. A powerful, moving and thought-provoking new story from the bestselling author of Noughts & Crosses, Malorie Blackman.

Once again Malorie Blackman has not failed to impress. I would suggest this for someone who is into dystopian fiction.

I don't know how to rate this book: I personally thought it was silly, and the writing was not to my taste. But I think another reader (a reader of the right age, romantic, and longing to meet a really competent female protagonist) might truly love it. And there was a lot to like about the details--there were a bazillion little references to get, some great plot twists, uncompromising but understated politics, and (of course) lots of sweaty teenaged lust. I liked the end, too. In fact, I wanted to cheer for the author. Getting all that Shakespeare and racial allegory into a book for teens, and then making it just as fluffy as anyone could possibly want, is an accomplishment in itself. In my mind I could hear someone arguing that not every book that mentions race has to be dead serious; that we need silly books too; that getting to write a silly book, if that's where your heart is, should not be a privilege reserved for the hegemony . . . and I found myself nodding along. So if hot YA space opera is your thing, read this book and enjoy it to the hilt. If you're looking for a deep take on Shakespeare, or deep anything really, look elsewhere.

This book is fantastic! Malorie ,as always, effectively uses the theme of love and now this time with a twist! A bit of science and love never hurt anyone. It's is truly amazing how a fantasy can be broight to life through the art of writing. Vee and Nathan are two people in need of a new experience - read to see one of the many forms of teen love! I've read this book multiple times, an each time there is a true thrill to each scene!

This book is really worth reading, even if you are a hopeless romantic ;)

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing

Colour me disappointed! I loved the Noughts & Crosses series, but none of Blackman's other YA novels I have read could live up to my expectations. As for this one, I'm not even sure who the intended audience is. Some sex scenes are a little too explicit for middle schoolers, but teenagers and young adults will be bored by run-of-the-mill phrases, the instalove, cheesy vows of eternal love and the lack of a gripping plot. Plus, the characters' behaviour was too annoying to give the book three stars, which I really wanted, just because it's Malorie. But I can't bring myself to rate it any higher than 2.5 max. Oh and this book needs better editing - the number of typos is embarrassing. It's a shame, she is such a brilliant writer, but unfortunately she couldn't prove it with Chasing the Stars.

Excellent story, but the packaging was a little damages, and the corners slightly bent. This was a gift, so not ideal. Hopefully no-one else has had this problem. I assume it was damaged in shipping.

Wonderful Sci-fi book to add to the Blackman collection. The characters are interesting and complex.
