I purchased this book from Half Priced Books to read. All opinions are my own. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 The Hush by Skye Kelli Wegner. An amazing fantasy written about two magical worlds that operates on Music. Three teens begin an outlaw gang that travels back and forth between good and evil parts of the world playing Robin Hood basically. Until they rescue an unlicensed songshaper that will lead them on the most impossible mission ever. His rescue and recruitment into their gang costs more than the impossible heist they have to pull off only no one realizes just how much until it's too late to make changes to their plan.

    Pre-reading Thoughts:

I didn't even really know what this book was about when I requested it from Sky Pony Press. I saw it on someone's booktube channel and I knew I had to read this book. Now that I have read the synopsis, I can't help but think, why isn't this book everywhere. It sounds so good. And so far I have heard nothing but good things about it. This book sounds absolutely amazing. I cannot wait to jump into this world because I just know that I am going to enjoy it.

Thank you so much to Sky Pony Press for providing me with a copy of this book to review. Just a small little disclaimer for those reading this review. I received this book for free. No money from my pocket was spent in getting this book. Please note that in no way does this affect my opinion. All thoughts still remain my own.

    Writing Thoughts:

The writing in this book was incredible. It flowed like a well written piece of music. No hiccups and enticing. The words seemed to flow into one and create a beautiful image. I didn't read this book, I watched it from my seat on my bed. It was truly a master piece.

    Plot Thoughts:

This plot and this book is nothing I have ever read before. It was perfect and constantly interesting. There was never a dull moment. Things kept happening but at the best pace possible. It wasn't too much where it felt like everything was happening all at once. Instead it was laid out in such a way that you weren't able to put the book down in fear something bad happening. My heartbeat was frantic through all of the dangerous parts and I couldn't help but fell what the characters felt.

    Character Thoughts:

These characters are all my little marshmallows. And no can tell me otherwise. They are just all so precious. Dot with all her theories. Susannah with her compassion. Travis with his incredible humor. Chester with his raw passion. And Sam, who felt everything so deeply that it hurt to read about him.

    Final Thoughts:

This book was a masterpiece. Something that I will read over and over until the author finds a way to write more books in this world, because I need more. I want to feel more. I.. It was just perfect. Do I really need to say more? Can I really say more? I loved every moment.

Thank you so much to Sky Pony Press for sending me a copy to review. It was an incredible experience. One I won't forget.

    Yours in Reading,

    Melleny

Music - the right kind of music - is magical, and the only ones allowed to do it are those officially trained by the government's college. But Chester keeps accidentally slipping into magical mode when he plays his violin. Now the government is hunting him - and so is a "robin-hood-like" team of outlaws who need his talents to break into the college.

The Hush was an imaginative fantasy. One of the two best things about the book was the setting. It was very creative, adapting a sort of "wild west" setting into a fantasy world. And the addition of "The Hush," an alternate dimension layered over the normal world, made the story seem very sci-fi. And while music-as-magic isn't a new idea, I think the author had a fresh take on it in this novel.

The second best thing was the characters, specifically the Nightfall Gang. They are everything we love about a band of outlaws planning a high-profile heist. Each character was unique and had wonderful personality and a specific job to do. They were a lot of fun to read about. And when two of them started falling in love, it made the good story a little bit better.

Content note: The overall tone of the story was rather dark, and there was some violence, creepy monsters, evil people who kidnap others and do experiments on them, and some swearing (if I remember correctly on that last bit).

The Hush was a very enjoyable book, though dark, and I would recommend it to older teens and adults.

I received a complementary copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own, and I was not compensated for sharing them.

“The music calmed him. It was slow and steady, like drops of falling rain. Chester closed his eyes and fell into the sound, the run of notes, the thrum of double stops. Sometimes, when he played, Chester felt as though the music was his breath. He breathed in the song, and the song breathed back.”

The Hush by Skye Melki-Wegner was a really unique story where music had power and those who could control or tap into music could control parts of the world around them. The concept itself was fascinating and I liked the world and characters of the story. It did seem like so much more needed to be explained to fully connect to this book though. The writing could be a bit abrupt at times and over explaining at others. And though the characters were all really interesting I had a hard time feeling very connected to any of them. I give The Hush 3.5 stars. I would still be interested in reading more from this author as I really liked the idea for this book.
