- Reviewed in the United States on August 30, 2010Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseI can't understand why there are so many negative reviews of this book being posted. Jake Brown is one of rock's BEST biographers. He's written excellent books on Rick Rubin, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Alice in Chains and Heart, among others.
Jake actually takes the time to discuss the creative process behind Motley Crue, and gives equal weight to the music AND the personal trials and tribulations Nikki Sixx went through on his rise to the top. He actually talks about the music, not just the gossip and BS that we've heard about a million times before in other Motley Crue books, TV shows, etc.
Sometimes the BEST biographies are the ones that are unauthorized, becuase you get an unfiltered view into the artist or performer. This is a perfect example. I enjoyed this book a LOT more than "the Dirt".
I hope this author continues to write rock biographies such as this.
Anyone who disagrees must be on Nikki Sixx or Motley Crue's payroll :)
- Reviewed in the United States on January 23, 2015Format: KindleVerified PurchaseAnother great look into the life of a rock legend and a wonderful read. I have been a fan of Motley Crue since the 80's and thought I had a pretty good knowledge of anything Crue but this book proved me wrong. I enjoyed it very much!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 13, 2011Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseI should have wiped my but with the twenty dollars this terribly written excuse for a book cost. I have never read anything before that had as many misspelled words before. The author could not even spell the peoples names correctly that he was quoting. I would not tell anyone to read this book nor can i believe that a publishing company put there name on this without proofreading first.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 2, 2003Its about time someone wrote a book on hard rock's most notorious and enduring rebel- Nikki Sixx! From front to back, this book gives a concise and vivid inside look into Nikki Sixx's life, behind the scenes in the studio, in his personal life, and in his own mind through revealing diary entries. The stand out interviews in this book are with Lita Ford, Tom Werman and Bob Timmons, all of whom provide never-before revealed details into the mind of hard rock's mad scientist, in terms of his creative approach to writing and recording, his pursuit in the early days of Motley Crue of the brass ring, and his hard fought battle to recover from a life-threatening heroine addiction. Any die-hard Motley Crue fan or hard rock novice should own a copy of this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 31, 2007Ok I bought this book over a year ago from Swagrox I think I paid maybe like twenty bucks for it.. I have been a huge Nikki Sixx fan since Too Fast For Love came out.. and i had to buy it. Its NOT a very good book.. most the information in there is common knowledge and after reading The Dirt you know more about him than what you may learn from this book. The author did a HORRID job.. theres spelling errors and other huge mistakes in there.. I'm pretty sure a trained monkey could have done a better job. Even the font that they printed it in is lame... looks like some teenager with poor eyesight typed it.. in the dark with one arm?? I can't believe these people are asking that much for this book.. its NOT worth it..trust me

R. ThorpeReviewed in the United Kingdom on May 10, 20244.0 out of 5 stars Hard going.
I’ve read numerous Motley Crue/Nikki Sixx books from the Heroin Diaries 10th Anniversary edition (the one to have!) through to The Dirt and most things in between. This is one though is hard going and a not a great read to be honest. All the other books I’ve read have had me wanting to read them whenever I could and to revel in them, but this one is a bit boring. I’ll read it, but can’t say I’m enjoying it. Oh and there are so many spelling mistakes and grammatical errors that for the price I had to pay for it (£30) shouldn’t be there.
