Individualism and the Western Liberal Tradition argues that ethnic influences are important for understanding the West. The prehistoric invasion of the Indo-Europeans had a transformative influence on Western Europe, inaugurating a prolonged period of what is labeled "aristocratic individualism" resulting form variants of Indo-European genetic and cultural influence. However, beginning in the seventeenth century and gradually becoming dominant was a new culture labeled "egalitarian individualism" which was influenced by preexisting egalitarian tendencies of northwest Europeans. Egalitarian individualism ushered in the modern world but may well carry the seeds of its own destruction.

I loved this book! MacDonald does a great job of helping Europeans (and whoever else) understand why we are the way we are and how that informs our current state and situation.

I'm amazed Amazon.com still sells this book...they banned two of Kevin MacDonalds other books. Overall this is a very well researched and clearly written history of the origins of Western Civilization. You may not agree with everything he writes but that is the purpose of education, listen to what people have to say even if you don't agree with them. Its a shame Mr. MacDonald can't get a regular publisher to take on his book but these days its easy to see why. He has been labeled a racist and Neo Nazi by people who have clearly never read his books or are lying. His opinions have upset alot of people and they want to destroy his reputation. And it seems they have mostly suceeded.

An exhaustive and convincing case that individualism has developed in Western peoples over thousands of years and these behaviors influence genetic selection which then reinforce behaviors and so on. Individualism is a good survival tactic for Western peoples, but only within homogenous societies of those who are individualistic. Once a large enough group of collectively-oriented people gain a foothold within an individualistically-oriented people (and can act in accordance with their predisposition to act collectively), they become a societal pathogen for the individualistic society they have infested. Diversity (in the sense of individualistic vs collective orientation) is most definitely not our strength and is in fact debilitating.

This is a very important work, too bad our “institutions of higher learning” are so corrupt and inept, it would be greatly beneficial to all western societies if books like this were required reading.

Readable and filled with insightful information. I like the fact the print is a readable size, too. A pox on all small print books. Highly recommend if you tend to like this subject matter.

Fantastic book. Sheds a lot of light on the evolutionary traits of the European people. These traits have helped Europeans to do incredibly well, but to also be hacked by alien/subversive forces. I recommend all racially aware European peoples give it a read.

Text, binding, font size, et., simply awesome.

And printed in Middletown, even more of a blessing since I spent years working in the facility!

    Kudos!

Dr MacDonald explores many interesting topics, and like all of his other works, you don't necessarily have to agree with his central thesis to learn a lot from this well-cited and fascinating book.

This book is a real eye opener. If you want to know how we arrived where we are then this book delves into our European past. Every reference has citations, this really is a must for anyone in the least bit interested in European cultural history.

Having read about Mendel's discovery of genetics I was attracted by MacDonald's subtitle, Evolutionary Origins, History, and prospects for the Future. Written by a professor I was surprised that it was easy enough to read but my prospects for the future is that I'll have to read it again as the book is like an onion - the good professor is well read and is trying to give the reader all he can. I imagine I'll be referring to this book a lot as I ponder the extreme individualism of the West.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Indo-european rennaisance
Reviewed in Germany on May 14, 2020
I want to make some references to other books and information in order to make a review nobody here covered.

I speedread it in a few days and skipped some parts i already know because i simply read it in other books and journals. I do need to read it in depth and check some of the written sources because there was new information in here. What hit the spot for me is that Mcdonald actually explains how i think and behave all my life, unconciously this is how i acted throughout my life i kinda laughed how spot on it was and had to admit i'm not that concious about myself.

The review Graham H. Seibert ( international review) is the best review i read he actually hits the nail on the head, i have little to add to this.. I agree with mcdonald's research and to me it confirms the notion that the rennaisance was a highly ethnic ( primarily) and pagan endeavor... and not christian at all, not multi ethnic, not multi cultural ( althought christianity did have some influence especially christians who embraced pre-christian pagan teachings OR christians who seen the value in it and supported pagan ideas). It started with the fall of byzantium when alot of ancient greeks ( not resembling modern day greeks but more like swedes, persians and greek syrians..indo-europeans ) immigrated to italy with the fall of byzantium by the ottomans. Italy got flooded by indo-europeans who took all their endeavors and knowledge to florence and venice who at that time had the right reforms and people in power to pull of a rennaisance. I can guarantee you if it were africans or turks migrating to florence or venice (like today europe suffers mass immigration) the rennaisance wouldn't have happened.

You should read bartlett, K ''The Renaissance in Italy'' and ''genius famine by edward dutton''. I also like the fact that Bartlett explains humanism as something different. It doesn't have anything to do with human rights , tolerance, ethic or morals. The people who re-invented humanism in the rennaisance were actually insprired by pre-christian pagan ( native ancient romans , greeks , germans etc) ideas. These are ideas which were originally build by the indo-europeans mcdonalds describes in his book. Actually the pope later on actually crushed the rennaisance in rome by destroying pagan monuments , temples and books because he thought paganism shouldn't have a role in christianity.

The humanism they designed back then especially in florence meant individualism and self-detemination which are a product of indo-european culture and not christianity. The humanism today with equality, tolerance and human rights nonsense is actually anti-indo-european and anti-rennaisance , equality got absolutely nothing to do with it..it's just some empty globalist nonsense which has no place in history or time. Back then in the rennaisance the elite who introduced the rennaisance especially in florence and other places ( aragon, spain, etc) actually expelled alot minorities ( especially jews and arabs) and foreign entities/companies and nationalized banks. Also note that northern italy where the rennaissance started was primarily germanic at the time ( indo-european) in the south of italy the rennaissance never really touched off especially in sicily where they had arab, african and turkish immigrant and occupations.

In northern italy they re-introduced the indo-european ( aryan ) caste system with individualist aristocrats who were highly in favour of the different type of humanism ( which i wrote above ) this created a certain stability where the native european spirit could thrive and grow. It got nothing to do with christian religious morals or ethics because italy was in a state of war it was everyone against every. People got hands cut off, beheaded, murdered, poisoned, assassinated... massive amounts of people died in wars, disease and died building rennaisance monuments they build. It was highly undemocrated and extremely competitive. Yet they achieved the biggest feats.

Basically in a nutshell the rennaisance was a highly indo-european/aryan endeavor. I hope Mcdonald will write a book about the rennaissance as well that would be interesting.

Conservative liberals and republicans talking about assimilation or intergration of immigrants are actually promoting the opposite of a rennaisance and the utter destruction of europe and democracy. It's either total stupidity on their part or pure evil...maybe both... in the end it will only end in genocide and the destruction of democratic institutions.. everything achieved last few hundreds years will be undone. Could also be they are just lying to draw more votes from demographic different groups but have a different agenda. From a socio-biological standpoint most immigrant groups especially africans are absolute the opposite of indo-europeans in behaviour and culture. it doesn't matter how nice someone is that isn't the point .. its what julius evola calls the ''racial soul'' which is important. Unfortunately most people in the west doesn't seem to understand this.
