“It’s official Take a Psycho to Work Day. Why else would I be here?”
Hunted. Hated. Betrayed. Outcast Dagger Ixur is on the run for his life. As one of the most recognizable members of his royal house, he has a bounty on his head that guarantees him no quarter from any friend or even family. But surrender isn’t in him. He will fight to the bitter end. A resolve that is sorely tested when he narrowly escapes a trap that leaves him severely wounded. With what he believes is his dying breath, he saves a boy born to an extinct race from a group out to enslave the kid for his legendary abilities.
Ushara Altaan has spent her entire life hating the Andarion royal house that drove her entire species into virtual extinction. As a rare Andarion Fyreblood, she is sworn to end the existence of any royal she finds. But when Dagger saves her son’s life, she is torn between her people and a debt that can never be repaid.
Yet worse than Dagger’s family that’s still out to end hers and him, are the League assassins after him who will stop at nothing to claim the lives of her Tavali family. The only hope she has to save them all is to put their future and her faith into the hands of the very enemy whose grandmother personally extinguished Ushara’s legendary lineage. But how can she ever trust Dagger when he is a disinherited outlaw whose real name is synonymous with betrayal?

- Reviewed in the United States on June 23, 2016So, here's my deal. I suffer from a condition that is technically known as Sleep Pattern Disruption Syndrome (also known as chronic insomnia). Much like Nykyrian, Syn, Fain and Talyn, sleep dep is something I just live with. To pass the nights when this strikes, I read .... voraciously. Whether it's old friends I've visited many times or a new friend I'm learning about for the first time, it is my love of books that keeps me sane and takes me to many places I can never go in real life. The Ichidian Universe is one of those places and it's one of my favorite realms to visit.
Perspective is an insanely wonderful thing. It can change simply by altering the angle of your view. Sherrilyn Kenyon is a master of bring ing more than one perspective into a story line.
From Born of Night through Born of Defiance, we've seen only one side of Julienne eton Anatole, the side that portrays him as an insanely overweight, power hungry, malicious aristo who doesn't really care about any one or anything other than himself. We were all led to this conclusion very deliberately and, I admit, I felt a certain revulsion for his character.
In Born of Defiance, Fain's book, there is a sudden shifting of perspective. It was unexpected and, quite frankly, a little unnerving. The beauty of that shift, however, allowed me to alter my perception of someone who had, until this book, been a relatively minor player. This twist is a wonderful thing for a reader. It keeps us on the edge of our seats and we can't wait to see how it's going to turn out now that something new has been added to the mix.
Born of Legend is, by far, one of the longest books in the League series at over 700 pages. I understand why it had to be this way. It covers so many years in the League timeline that it couldn't have been shortened without losing too much. It is, now, one of my favorites in this series because the book gave me the chance to re-evaluate a character's evolution and to understand how that evolution came about.
I discovered that Dagger isn't the bastard I thought him to be. I learned about his childhood as Julienne eton Anatole and the abuse he suffered at the hands of the people who were supposed to love and care for him. I learned about his own self-loathing and began to appreciate just how misunderstood he had always been. Dagger isn't a man who craves power. He just wants to live in peace and understands that there are things he can never change, things he will regret forever. He is a man of quiet power who is not afraid to fight for those he loves, even when he thinks he'll die.Born of Legend (The League: Nemesis Rising)
I bought this book for my Kindle App on my tablet because I own all of the others in paperback form and I didn't want to wait until the paperback release. You can be assured, however, that the print copy will be taking its place on the shelf I have dedicated to the League so that I can visit Dagger, Vasili and Ushara many more times.
If you're looking for a wonderfully complicated and well written read ... if you love Sherri's work and the League series, this is definitely NOT a book you want to miss. Actually, 5 stars isn't really enough. I wish I could give it a 10.

Maybe not extreme spoilers but things of definite note.
Born of Legend is Book 9 in the amazing Sherrilyn Kenyon's League Series. In many ways it has leap frogged to the top of my favorite Kenyon Series. Maybe because it remains true to the beginning.. and maybe because it's just that good.
We all know you can't have a Kenyon hero without him having a tortured soul, it's just not possible. Each hero has to overcome some pretty nasty stuff. And on occasion (Styxx) he also has to overcome our preconceived notions. Yep, Sherrie manages to redeem the unredeemable. I bring that up because Born of Legend also redeems the unredeemable. Julian En Anatole.. And it was an amazing ride. This time, Sherrie gets it near perfect! In Styxx it was almost overkill and Zanax was definitely required and there were times when I hated Ash.. yeah not goo. But This time... It was less overkill and more emotional. More an adult who has to deal with the remnants of an abusive childhood, both physical and emotional. A child who was neglected, drugged and turned into the scapegoat of a nation. But Julian, AKA Dagger, rose above it all. Became the man he dreamed of being. Was he perfect? Nope...
We start Born of Legend when Julian was on his last hope, he was determined to die and he decided to do so by saving a child. That one action truly changed his life. Introduced him to the woman who became his "Darling Star" his guiding light, his very reason for being. And in turn helped him to overcome a dark and desperate past to be the man he dreamed of. But more than that, he became a true legend.
Ushara is Trivali, a race hammered together of outlaws with a code. She is the second in command and pretty much has it all. Has it all until her son is kidnapped and she is desperate to find him, to save him. What she finds is a stranger willing to give his life for her child. A Stranger broken in heart and body but still willing to save a child. How can Ushara NOT fall for this guy. As she begins to realize just who he is, she knows she should encourage him to move on, to start over somewhere else. I mean his family pretty much destroyed her entire race.. ooops. But she can't she keeps seeing the man behind the mask.
Ushara has the strength and fortitude that no one in Julian's life has ever had AND she believes in him. He is not perfect and he's most definitely a work in progress. That and he always puts the family that left him first. Kind of irksome but as I said, Julian evolves. He creates his own family. He becomes a hero, a legend to his new people. And when it comes time to save the family of his past he goes and faces those demons as well.
And there were some serious cheer moments.. Like when Mama dearest tries to claim him as her son and she is totally slapped down by the woman who has adopted him into her lineage.. Or when Thraix (a friend) wants to know where Julian gets his intelligence because it obviously wasn't from anyone in his side of the family. A total slap down.. Brilliantly done.
What I really enjoyed is that we don't have to hate Nykerian.. Julian did some pretty crappy stuff to him in the past but Nyk understands that there were circumstances.. BUT.. happily ever after? BFF's?
This was a story of redemption, personal redemption and finding your own place in the world. Not living up to or down to the expectations of others but living your own life. Your own dreams and becoming the person you want to be.
Just wonderful!

If I have to choose a favourite in The League series, it's definitely Dagger and Ushara....
It was Nykyrian and Kiara for a long time. I have read every League book over and over again. And I loved each and every one of them. But Dagger's story holds something different here.
The way the book is written throws you into the story from page One. The history of how Dagger's life was before he met Ushara is given in tidbits and flashbacks all over the course of the books, so, we don't have to wait so long till they meet. That was very interesting for me. Unlike other huge books of Sherrilyn Kenyon's like Acheron and Styxx (Styxx is my all-time favourite Dark Hunter book BTW), this one gives us Dagger mid-point in his life and builds him into a legend with his wife at his side all through the journey.
I finished the book cover-to-cover in 2 days. That's how much I was excited about Dagger ... Now I'm reading it again in a slower pace because really I didn't want the book to end. It was an amazing story, amazing, amazing....
Characters jump out of the page; the main ones and the supporting ones. The detail and the buildup is as perfect as one terrific author like Ms. Kenyon always delivers. What I'd ask her to do is may be write more anthologies or short stories where we re-visit these characters again and see more of the family dynamics especially with their blood siblings.
This Book is simply outstanding that it drove me to write my first review here. Whatever you did with Born Of Legend, keep doing it for the next ones Ms. Kenyon. You spoiled my taste buds for any other authors.
Now I cannot wait till February to see Batien. And I definitely want to read about the Trisani characters.
I hope this helps :)

Manuela MarconiReviewed in Italy on September 6, 20163.0 out of 5 stars Giudizio sospeso
CatalusReviewed in Germany on August 6, 20165.0 out of 5 stars I've already reread this twice
After saying quite clearly what I think about 'Dragonmark' (which has been written by the same author) I figured I should give praise, where I think praise is deserved too and write a review for one of the books I love too.
'Born of Legend' is about Dagger Ixur and Ushara . Dagger is an awesome hero. He has it anything but easy in life, but he isn’t a whiner. He freely owns his own mistakes and nothing kills his quirky sense of humor. Ushara is great too. She isn’t the classical orphaned heroine in need of rescuing. She actually has both her parents, lots of siblings, cousins and a son. She loves them all and is loved back by them, but that doesn’t make her lovestory any less interesting, in fact it adds a lot to it.
Instead of basing the friction between the loves on the typical and often annoying misunderstandings between a couple, the major hurdle to happily ever after between the two of them are their respective families. Yes, Dagger’s familiy is alive too, though loving relationship isn’t an accurate description.
There are interesting side-characters, exciting, action-filled universe-changing events and great tie-ins to other league books. In fact I strongly recommend reading (at minimum) 'Born of the Night' , 'Born of Defiance‘ and 'Born of Betrayal' first.
It’s a book about love (of course), but also about redemption, about rising from the ashes and reinventing yourself, about the dangers of hatred and how easy it is too misjudge others. It’s a book about finding a home and a family, but not the ‚presented on a silver plate‘ version, the version that requires effort and heartache, tolerance and forgiveness..
I am not sure how to say more without causing major spoilers, but I think I can say this safely at least: After getting a big surprise in ‚Born of Betrayal‘ I was worried I’d end up hating some of the heroes from the earlier books when reading this book. To my relief it wasn’t that way. Dagger managed to make himself loveable without throwing dirt on Nykyrian or Talyn or even Dancer Hauk.
A. HartleyReviewed in the United Kingdom on July 8, 20165.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding!!!
What a brilliant book, action packed, riveting and simply, I couldn't put it down. I would highly recommend this book to any new or old Sherrillyn Kenyon fan. I have always loved the strength of the characters and their determination to fight against the odds. There is action on nearly every page that defies you to put it down. I've always liked Kenyon's female characters who always have strength and a knack to kick ass! Can't wait for the next instalment!
