This outstanding book on the conditions imposed upon the defeated German Reich is the best I have read. The German people are truly remarkable in not only surviving the total destruction of their country but all the harsh conditions imposed upon them. What were they? Astronomical consequences which include rape, plunder, and wholesale murder as performed by the Soviets and "Bomber Harris" Add to that, striping Germany of their machines, food sources, housing, and any way of making a living. Next add monetary reparation and complete loss of rights. So this was democracy at its finest!!!!! There seem to be a rabid hate by the allies and it seems that they wanted the German people to completely cease to exist. This seems strange in light of the fact that the USA has up to 25% or more people of German heritage. Anyone with some intelligence knows that the vast majority of the German people were not Nazi's and only 17% supported Hitler. The main thrust and goal of Hitler was the destruction of the Bolshevism and any people that support this godless, oppressive, and destructive form of government. Much has been made of the holocaust against the Jews, Poles, Russian prisoners, etc., yet little is said about the Third Reich's attempt to remove the Jews from Germany and German occupied territory by offering to send them to the USA, Russia, England, and many other nations before the "final solution" was started. These nations did not want them!!! Read your history and see for yourself that the Semantic people of the Jewish faith were rejected by every nation!!! But that did not matter to the allies. They wanted every drop of German blood they could get. Vengeance? not really, annihilation? Yes, and then some. Yet, none of the world understood the nature of the German people. The Phoenix rose from the ashes due to hard work, willing to sacrifice everything, and complete determination to resist and overcome any means to destroy them.
