When Arthur Bobowicz is sent out to bring home the family's Thanksgiving turkey, he returns instead with Henrietta -- a 266 pound chicken with a mind of her own. Feathers fly when this colossal clucker descends upon Hoboken, New Jersey. Thus begins the hilarious hen-tastic tall tale that has kept readers in stitches since Henrietta first pecked her way onto the scene in 1977.
Revised with brand new illustrations by Pulitzer Prize winner Tony Auth, this new edition of The Hoboken Chicken Emergency will have readers crowing so hard with laughter, they may just lay an egg!

I only gave it 4 stars because my favorite Daniel Pinkwater (written under the name D. Manus Pinkwater) was Lizard Music and in my opinion, nothing ever could top that!

The story moves along simply and lively and shows some realistic appreciation for the problems of giant chicken fanciers.
Pinkwater has many devoted fans who read them as children and possibly to their own children. As an adult reader of the better sort of children's books, I approve it for children, namely, find it readable myself. As I always say, never give a child a book you would not re-read yourself. This is especially true of books for small children, some of which are horrible. If you can't read them 100 times without some enjoyment you are only hurting yourself should your child like bad writing.
