If you're stupid and careless, you can even kill yourself and/or others. You can also burn down your house or do enough damage to earn a few years of free room & board from Uncle Sam. If you take reasonable precautions, however--and these precautions are meticulously described--you will end up with a college-level understanding of experimental science. And have a lot of fun. Highly recommended.
