I absolutely adore the Mass Effect trilogy. I'd say that one of the highlights of the series is its design. The characters, settings, and overall aesthetic are absolutely amazing and so extremely impressive. The book's contents themselves are like Keanu Reeves- breathtaking. I love looking through the earlier character concepts and seeing what the artists' thought processes were and learning fun, obscure details along the way. I would most definitely recommend this book to my friends if I had any. But, you don't need friends when you have Mass Effect.

This is a big book! The pages have a nice glossy finish and have that wonderful new book smell. They dive a bit into the creation part of the series with a few rough character sketches but I feel like most of the environmental work over shadows the character pages. A lot of the character art looks like rough thumbnail images rather than finished pieces.

Great book if you just want to gloss over some of the ideas behind Mass Effect. If you are looking for a deep dive into any one subject you are out of luck. This book is almost all pictures with very little narratives to describe the process and or logic behind decisions. There is some amazing art and design in this series, I could see this being expanded into a text book for Game Art & Design students with some work on the narrative part of the book.

I am a big fan of the trilogy and decided to add this one on my shelf for video game art books. First off the book was a lot larger and heavy than expected! Which is a good thing for me, features pages of art concepts of favourite characters and a lot of large coloured images. Honestly if you liked the trilogy and wanted to know more about what they decided to do and how things changed from draft to final product, this book is a good one to pick up.
