". . . written as a thought-through work of nonfiction presented with characters, a story arc with a clear beginning and moving conclusion. . . Add this one, Heart Work, to that list of nonfiction books that read as well or better than any award-winning novel. . . Heart Work is honest. It is real. It will tug at your heartstrings and offer solace to your emotions. It will entice your mind to learn more and become one of those books you don't want to put down."
Nick Schenkel, Director of West Lafayette Public Library, Book Reviewer for WBAA/NPR.
"an unraveling of a painful past and a reweaving of relationships forged in love and grief."
Kathryn Schaffer, PhD, Professor Emerita, Gender Studies, University of Adelaide, Australia. Author of Human Rights and Narrated Lives: The Ethics of Recognition.
The Gandour daughters' art work on the cover of Heart Work "struck me as the faces of grief; the attempt to order one's life by bravely marching along while emotional chaos rages within . . . the images have such soul!"
Mona Quinn, retired teacher and academic advisor, Purdue University.
"My overwhelming impression or 'take-away' from Heart Work is simply all the love that goes into the raising of children."
Mary Logan Dettmers, author of Something New: "Myku."
"a rare, crystal clear example of how we might bravely investigate the past after the passage of time - with intentional honest effort and courage, inviting in the perspectives of others, and our own changed self."
Hope Gulker, MSW, Clinical Associate Professor, Purdue University.

It has inspired me to touch places which have been locked away, and sit with them, and hold them in my heart and turn them over in my mind, for the insight and healing that only time, and the perspective of distance and maturity, can offer.
This is a gripping read, which you will recommend to others facing adversity and searching for strength.
