About the Author

BECKY POWELL now works as an insurance agent. Her oldest children, Madison and Boone, have graduated from Baylor University and her youngest, John Luke, is a freshman in college. Alongside her career, Becky remains active in her church and volunteer work, including Helping Hand Home and YoungLife. She and her three children live in Austin, Texas.

KATHERINE REAY is a national bestselling and award-winning author of several novels. She has enjoyed a lifelong affair with books and brings that love to her contemporary stories. Awful Beautiful Life is her first full-length nonfiction work. Katherine holds a BA and MS from Northwestern University and currently lives outside Chicago, IL with her husband and three children. This is a book of heartbreak and joy. Becky describes how to lean on God, be an incredible parent and maintain wonderful friendships. Her joy, beauty and grace grew through prayer and action as she reaches the other side of a terrible tragedy and teaches her almost grown children how to weather the storm too. I can’t imagine what I’d do if my partner was gone, I was suddenly osing my home, I faced possible imprisonment, and my friends were unknowingly owed millions of dollars but I pray I’d be like Becky. And if I was one of those friends, I hope I’d act as loving and grace filled as so many of her friends did. I read the last few pages very very slowly because I wanted the joy I felt at the end of the book to last.

I originally read this book upon purchase at the end of 2019. Although I loved this book, only in rereading and taking the time (that we all seem to have more of these days) to truly process the words and their meaning have I come to appreciate this book. I mean, REALLY appreciate the struggle, words of faith, and healing that occur within the pages. Having extra time to slow down and absorb such a meaningful book has bolstered my faith in humanity! Dark days will come but the Light of God will always prevail. If you need reassurance of that fact please read 'awful beautiful life'!!!!!

This is an amazing book, a cannot put down book. Read the book in a madder of days (would been sooner if uninterrupted, lol). I've since prayed for Becky and her family, though this was several years ago. I felt like I was pulled into the situation right then and there while reading the book. The book touched my life at times, simply God speaking to me. I'm sad the book is over, I want to know what they have been doing since the end of the book, what are they doing today. lol I've shared the book, so they too can be touched.
