Edible wild plants, mushrooms, fruits, and nuts grow wild along roadsides, in country fields, and in urban parks. This fully illustrated guide is the perfect companion for hikers, campers, and anyone who enjoys eating the good food of the earth. With The Complete Guide to Edible Wild Plants, Mushrooms, Fruits, and Nuts in hand, you'll never walk through a field again without casting your eyes about with dinner in mind.

I cant wait to go look foraging, I bought this so I could go explore in Oregon on some waterfall trails or somewhere , this will give me something to do to keep me active. the book came right on time and there are lots of plants I never heard of before.

When out afield, you should know what plants are safe to eat, and what are dangerous.
A must for any hiking event or wilderness person.

The title is a bit leading, and while although I found reading this book a bit enjoyable (mostly do to her recipes and general outlook/writing style) there are a few too many things missing.

All around not a terrible book, my three starts are likely a little more then I'd say, BUT I did read it all the way through and have read it twice (I think hoping I just forgot some of the information I read the first time though honestly).

I was very bothered by one section, I believe about mushrooms, that she even suggested to get a better guide because it wasn't with in the scope of her book. The title does say "The Complete Guide to Edible Wild Plants, Mushrooms, Fruit, and Nuts..." right?

I would suggest buying other books to read along with this one. In fact I'd suggest reading a lot of foraging books before attempting to do so yourself. Especially ones written about your area specifically. A class and some online research would also be of great benefit!

Having moved out of the city to the countryside I was keen to take advantage of the many foraging oportunities available to me in and around our garden and teach our young children which plants can be eaten and which ones they should avoid.

Having not picked up the book since it arrive I eagerly opened it last weekend to check to see if one of the trees nearby was a sweet or horse chestnut. I was somewhat surprised to find many pages dedicated to coconuts, but none to chestnuts. Obviously I made the obvious mistake of assuming that the Chestnut tree was a common edible plant and should have realised that the coconut was far more common and so warrented an entry.

I then went through the book and was amaized at the number of common edible plants (when compared to the river cottage equivalent) that were absent from this book.

In conclusion, if you are planning on being stranded on a caribean island this book would do you, however, if you live in the UK save your money and take a look at the River Cottage seriesHedgerow (River Cottage Handbook).
