Her careers span the gamut—from being a stand-in for Mary Tyler Moore and the designer behind Valerie Harper’s wardrobe on Rhoda to a costume jewelry designer; publisher of an environmental newspaper in Los Angeles; board game inventor; and author. She helped start the first film festival in Taos, New Mexico, and has worked with several nonprofits to help raise money and awareness about health and environmental concerns. Kirk enjoys spending time with her boyfriend, four children, and seven grandchildren. She lives in Ramona, California.

Throughout her life, Mimi Kirk’s talents and interpersonal skills brought her into numerous jobs and careers. She had a stint as a Las Vegas showgirl, and was the stand-in for Mary Tyler Moore in the hit sitcom The Mary Tyler Moore Show. She designed clothes and jewelry for Valerie Harper, and invented the popular scarf motif along with the “Rhoda style” for Valerie on the Rhoda television series. Her career in the film industry put her in front of the camera for over seventeen years.

Kirk left the industry to open her own national jewelry manufacturing business. Later, becoming Interested in personal growth, she sold her company and became the regional marketing director for a company that delivered self-improvement seminars. She left to study with her Guru in India. Soon after her return she became executive assistant and charity events coordinator for a private family, and sat on the board of several nonprofit organizations in Los Angeles. In 1989, Kirk was the founder, editor, and publisher of an environmental newspaper, The City Planet, in Los Angeles.

Adding to her list of many careers, in 1998 Mimi owned and operated Side Saddle, L.L.C. for ten-years where she manufactured cowgirl themed products sold around the world. She is the inventor of four board games including Cowgirls Ride The Trail of Truth, a board game for women 18-118 and authored Cowgirl Spirit. Although she sold her company in 2008, her games and products are still sold worldwide.

In August 2009 Mimi won the title of “sexiest vegetarian over 50” in a nation wide contest conducted by PETA. She was the oldest contestant at 70 and won over hundreds of other contestants. She has been interviewed on NBC, KUSI, Fox and appeared on The Doctors, a national TV show. Many newspaper and magazine articles have been written about her as well as many online blogs. She recently authored Eat Raw, Stay Hot with a release date of May 2011. Mimi is passionate about helping others to look and feel their best by eating a plant based raw food vegan diet.

wonderful book, must read for all raw foodists
I am thoroughly enjoying this book! Having tried raw food living for a while I love the new recipes and beautiful, inspiring layout of the book. Mimi, you are living proof and obviously walking your talk unlike some other health food gurus ...I am only halfway through but recommend this book. I also like your links and the fact that your book has lots of pictures AND a very thorough introduction to a healthy/holistic lifestyle, including meditation, yoga etc. I have practiced yoga for over 30 years, and being a yoga teacher now I can confirm that once on a healthy path there is no stopping, one just goes deeper and deeper, feeling better and better. I will recommend this book to my students along with my own just released book "It's not about putting your foot behind your ear, an inspiring story of transformation through yoga" [...]. I think I've found the holy grail of raw cookbooks! I'm just barely making my first foray into the world of raw cooking. I've purchased several raw cookbooks, but this is the only one I need. In fact, I just received it today, so I haven't made any of the recipes yet. I'll do another review, or modify this one, once I try some recipes. This is actually my first review on Amazon). I just couldn't wait to give this book a glowing review! There is a wide selection of recipes, and they all look delicious and manageable to prepare. I'm SO excited to get cracking on this book! It also provides an enormous wealth of extremely useful advice on healthy living in general! I think it could be described as a "textbook" for raw living-- but one that is incredibly accessible, informative, and enjoyable to read! Such a great book, I'm considering writing a letter to the author to thank her for it. Like I said, this is the only raw cookbook I need... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

I was on my first step of changing my lifestyle into raw food, when I came across Mimi Kirk's "cook"book. It has been my guide into this whole new world, starting with help on how to transform my kitchen into a raw food friendly kitchen, and what I need in my cupboards. Half of the items I've never heard of before, but this book makes it easy to change. I never felt intimidated or overwhelmed - everything is explained, and gave me a whole new appreciation of greens, fruits, nuts, and grains. The recipes are fantastic and yummy. I started out with making one new recipe every day. We feel totally energized, the food is not only delicious, but also very satisfying. I did not have cravings once. From juices and smoothies, to making your healthy breads without any flour, non-dairy cheeses, salads, and sweets, it is all covered. This book is a great gift as well for anybody you know that wants to eat healthy, and nutritious that tastes wonderful.
The photos look so inviting that you want to start making the recipe right away. Yes, I do hug this book sometimes too...:)

Mimi's philosophy is in unconditional action of love, life and co-creative in her wonder-full book. Living foods are such a power invocation plant life energies that every bite is taken in taste of goodness and thanks for the realness of what it means to live in healthy harmony. On a practical note, the recipes are easy, creative and of course, you can improvise should you not have all the ingredients. I have done this with several, and they are all fantastic. I am really looking forward to making the BRAWnie recipe. It is also a lovely way to have your children join in, and chop veggies - use a spiralizer (my 16 year old son says it rocks), and the julienne slicer is definitely a handy tool to have, as suggested in the book. Mimi lays out where to order if you cannot find supplies locally. We live in a very remote area whereas the nearest healthfood store is 40 miles away so if we can do it, anybody can. Wild as it is, my fiance and I were out and about at an appt., and to our surprise and delight - Mimi's recipe book was sitting on the receptionist's desk. I couldn't help but to show her mine, as it was, I had my copy in hand for study and to take to the healthfood store with me for easy shopping of items. Thank you, thank you, thank you Mimi. You are an inspiration in living holistically and in harmony with our beloved planet.

Because she is so inspiring, the recipes are great, the book is gorgeous...but I think that if you write and publish a book and you have the universe at your fingertips, you have an obligation to provide correct information on a technical level.
Braggs Liquid Animos is not a raw food, and neither is Nama Shoyu. Yes, nama mean raw in Japanese, but that only means the end product is not pasteurized, not that it's actually a "raw food". Bragg's is not only heat processed but also processed with hydrochloric acid resulting in glutamates which will cause a reaction in folks sensitive to MSG.
And the reason seaweed salad is bright green in Japanese restaurants is not because they "maybe use food coloring", but because they do a rinse with baking soda to keep that lovely bright color.
Just a couple of examples. It's one thing if you're talking to your friends saying "hey, I heard such and such" but it's entirely different to choose to publish and perpetuate that kind of thing. Just not cool.

All of this is easily available info online, but you can't get a get out of jail free card just because you're super cute for your age - if you publish a book there's some responsibility there, especially when the information is a couple of clicks away.

Having said that - she has a charming writing voice, the recipe are great, I love that she's not adamant that if you ever eat non-raw life is over, the photos are fantastic, I love everything else.

Mimi's book is a real winner. Easy to follow, and well worth the investment. We try to eat raw as much as possible and she makes it very tasty. It seems eating raw is her life, and she really takes the book serious. And now she has a second book out that we just bought and it seems to be a real winner also. I follow her on FB and she is always traveling looking for new raw recipies. Like I say this is her life. By the way see her photo on the cover? She is over 70. She has always been stunning and was one of the Planet Of The Apes actors all those years ago, but she has managed to keep her figure all these years and her stamina. Its not easy being on the road so many days a year, and that stamina seems to be somewhat from raw eating. I bought this book for a few friends and had it sent to them through Amazon, and we now have two copies, one for work and one for home.

For me it was an inspirational book on many levels and I read the first section (ways of living that promotes a rejuvenating lifestyle) with delight.
Simple advices and tricks that makes us healthier and vibrant and good being reminded of.
As for the recipes part, they are very original and well detailed, this Mimi is a real lady with lots of life experience which makes this book even more captivating (its so hard to believe she's 73...). She takes us around the globe and we can have our favorite dishes prepared RAW.
This book follows me everywhere!

Ein sehr lohnenswertes Buch zu einem unglaublich günstigen Preis! Es ist sehr schön gestaltet, fast DIN A4 groß, jede Seite ist farbig und mit originellen Mustern im Hintergrund, es macht schon Freude es allein anzuschauen!

Ein großer Teil besteht aus sehr guten Rezepten, vorne erzählt Mimi von ihrem Leben und gibt 29 Tipps zur Ernährung, man spürt das 70 Jahre Lebenserfahrung dahinter stehen, sie überzeugt durch ihre positive und fröhliche Art!

Die Fotos sind herrlich, die Gerichte sehen fantastisch aus, sie schafft es z.B. etwas so einfaches wie einen Rote Beete Salat so herzurichten, dass er super aussieht! Alles macht einfach nur Lust es gleich selbst auszuprobieren! Ich habe sofort meinen Green Star Entsafter wieder aus dem Keller rausgeholt!

I received this book today and haven't read it word for word yet but just browsing through it i can tell you that this is a most wonderful raw food book.

The Authoress clearly has a love for humanity and life, she comes across so genuinely and includes advice about staying young, how to take care of our bodies she even advices that we should all celebrate our birthdays for a month straight!

The book is packed with colourful images of delicious looking raw food with clear methods of preparation, and it's a good quality and colourful book printed on good quality paper.

I cannot recommend it highly enough, when i've read it i'll proberley write another review if Amazon will let me!(Smile)
