Jamie S. Rich is an author known for both prose and comics. He has published four novels: CUT MY HAIR, I WAS SOMEONE DEAD, THE EVERLASTING, and HAVE YOU SEEN THE HORIZON LATELY?, all released through Oni Press.

In addition to writing fiction, he has worked as a music journalist, a manga rewriter, and spent ten years editing comic books, four of them at Dark Horse Comics and six as editor-in-chief of Oni Press. In 2015, he returned to publishing, joining Vertigo Comics as Senior Editor and eventually becoming Group Editor of the Batman titles, working with Tom King on the main series as well as MISTER MIRACLE, RORSHACH, STRANGE ADVENTURES, and SUPERGIRL: WOMAN OF TOMORROW. Other creators Rich edited include Gerard Way, John Ridley, Scott Snyder, Brian Michael Bendis N.K. Jemisin, and many more. He oversaw the launches of Jon Kent as Superman and Yara Flor as the new Wonder Woman, and co-edited the Eisner Award-winning anthology LOVE IS LOVE. Since DC, Rich has been Editor-in-chief at Tapas Studios and IDW, where he was at the helm of the top-selling 2024 relaunch of TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES.

As a writer, Rich debuted his first ongoing comic book series in June of 2006, LOVE THE WAY YOU LOVE, a collaboration with Marc Ellerby (now collected in two omnibus editions). This was followed in the fall of that year by the original graphic novel 12 REASONS WHY I LOVER HER, drawn by Joëlle Jones.

The writer teamed with Joëlle Jones a second time for another full-length graphic novel, YOU HAVE KILLED ME, a hardboiled crime story set in the 1930s. Oni Press published the book in July 2009. More recently, the pair collaborated on LADY KILLER for Dark Horse. Based on an idea by Jones, LADY KILLER stars a 1960s housewife who has a secret life as an assassin. The violent dark comedy debuted in 2015.

Rich has also worked for Image Comics, scripting two volumes of IT GIRL AND THE ATOMICS, a spin-off of Mike Allred's Madman. It's drawn by Mike Norton (BATTLEPUG), Chynna Clugston Flores (BLUE MONDAY), and Natalie Nourigat (BETWEEN GEARS). The entire series was collected in two trade paperbacks. Nourigat is also Rich's collaborative partner on A BOY AND A GIRL, a futuristic love story.

Other books by Jamie S. Rich include two books with artist Megan Levens (BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER): the twisted horror of MADAME FRANKENSTEIN and the classic Hollywood romance of ARES & APHRODITE: LOVE WARS, as well as THE DOUBLE LIFE OF MIRANDA TURNER, a superhero adventure with George Kambadais. He also published the the pulpy, surreal ARCHER COE & THE THOUSAND NATURAL SHOCKS with Dan Christensen and its sequel, THE WAY TO DUSTY DEATH.

Rich lives in Idaho with a pug who reminds him life is not all that complicated or stressful if you just take a minute for a good stretch.

As written by Jamie S. Rich and illustrated by Joëlle Jones, "12 Reasons Why I Love Her" refreshes the romance genre, bringing it up to date by setting the story in the aughts rather than the mid-20th century, when comic books about troubled young couples flourished on newsstands all over the country. Written in "out of sequence" vignettes which chronicle protagonists Evan and Gwen's turbulent relationship, the creative team challenges the reader to piece the story from start to finish, providing an excellent mental exercise in the process. There is a lot to like about this book, starting with its focus on Gwen. By the time you're done reading it, you'll understand why Evan has fallen for her so greatly. Sometimes, soul mates do come together by mere happenstance.

Jones excels here, in her first major project before becoming a superstar artist on DC's "Catwoman" series. She employs different art styles throughout to better flesh out Gwen's uniqueness. The part where Gwen muses about the four seasons, (from best to least liked) and her penchant for non-PC jokes truly brings the character to life. Perhaps it's only fitting that the final vignette is (as I expected it to be) the night of their introduction to each other. I could easily see this become a film given the proper connections. It's a modern classic and a true 21st century love story for the ages. I greatly enjoyed it and give it my highest possible recommendation.

I loved the book. It's a very personal look into the lives of the two young lovers, but also leaves some hanging. Jumped around a lot and tells the story out of chronological order, but it's always fun to go back and pick up the minor details you missed the first time. i recommend it. Oh, and I LOVE Joelle Jones' art.

When I read the back and read that the vignettes within the book were not in order I was thinking, "Oh great, he's trying to copy the Pulp Fiction style of storytelling," but I was pleasantly surprised. After a quick introduction, we're hit hard by the very first story and each subsequent chapter only gets better. I enjoyed how it ended, tied it all up quite nicely. Joelle Jones superbly illustrates the book.

I loved this book! The number one reason is Jones! I follow her artwork anywhere! This isn't a book for everyone. As stated buy another, very much similar to 500 days of Summer in terms of presentation. It goes through a lot of relationship aspect. However, not all are can relate and I definitely wouldn't recommend this book to a person that is still coping with heart-ache.

Another great Original Graphic Novel from ONI: I ordered this book after a full chapter was previewed on several comic books sites and I don't regret it.

Each of the 12 chapters of the book cover an important scene in the relationship between the two main characters. The realistic dialogs written by Jamie Rich and the emotions carried by Joelle Jones' art make all of these scenes special.

An excellent book for people who like to "piece of life" stories.

Tear tracks are still staining my stupid face as I write this review. If you start reading this book, you will likely read it in one sitting. While I was still in the malaise and intoxication of emotion, this question came to my mind: How do I write a review to encourage others to read this book?

Universality - 5 out of 5 stars
Recommendability to a friend - 5 out of 5 stars
Creativity - 5 out of 5 stars
Unformulaicness - 5 out of 5 stars
Visual beauty - 5 out of 5 stars
Insightfulness - 5 out of 5 stars

I scan through several hundred comics every month in Previews, trying to decide what to buy. This cover & title jumped out at me. While I am not a regular reader of this graphic novel genre, this design was compelling, and I ordered the book. I am writing this review with one hand behind my back, because as you will understand after reading the book, I can't really review it completely without giving away the plot flow and conclusion. It would kind of be like trying to write a review about "The 6th Sense" without commenting on the fact that Bruce Willis is dead throughout most of the movie (You have seen The 6th Sense? Right? Please tell me I didn't just ruin that for you.) How do you review a book like this without disarming the artists' intended effect? Since it is a new book, I don't want to spoil anything for anyone. I apologize for the mystery. So instead of a normal review, I will just mention a couple responsive thoughts that came to mind after reading the book.

The book reveals issues that arise when a person chooses that one special person to spend the rest of their life with.

Love is sometimes an emotional and intellectual drive that inspires us beyond our initial ideas and boundaries in search of ways to create long term healthy rapport with others. Self-selected morals and boundaries that disable that drive tend to limit our ability to experience, recognize, maintain, and grow love that is often near to us.

I decided to pick up this title after hearing it on Indie Spinner Rack's "Best of 2006", (Indie Spinner Rack is a free podcast about inependent comics). My expectations were high and anticipation grew as I tracked by widget I grew ecstatic as I saw my package delivered to my door. I raced home after work and tore my package open and read it Jamie Rich's new graphic novel with aplomb only to be disappointed.

After getting to the end I was disappointed feeling disjointed I put it down.

I decided to begin again and try over. Let me tell you, I was not disappointed. "Twelve Reasons I Love Her" is a fantastic graphic novel, with deep characterizations, you can see why the main character falls in love. And like any great art, it helps you understand the world within you.
