Kids love Legos, so it seems like this would be for kids. The author/builder has recreated Old and New Testament stories using Lego bricks. Unlike cutesy Noah's ark and Jonah stories that whitewash the Bible stories the author/creator actually emphasizes the areas of the Bible that tend to get ignored. He's not adding anything (well except for interpretation). The parts he puts in the Bible are there. For example, Noah gets drunk after he gets off the ark and passes out naked. That's there. His son (with raised eyebrow, I'm not sure where he got a Lego face with a raised eyebrow like this one) delights and looking at his father's naked body. That's in the Bible. It usually gets glanced over. Also, to use the same story, in the Bible kids usually are given Noah's ark story because there are lots of animals on a boat. But it's a dark story, God destroying the world. So in the Brick Bible there is a woman floating on a log trying to survive. Someone is trying to save a baby. When the ark is floating there are skeletons all over the ocean floor and when the ark lands there are skeletons on the ground. There is also a scene where a Rebekah gives birth where Jacob is holding onto Esau's heel. She's got her legs spread and there's lots of blood. So these examples are to say, do you want to explain these types of things to your child? The answer may be yes. It's a bit of satire. Noah sacrifices a giraffe (if you follow the logic of the story). The images in Revelation are literal as opposed to figurative. But you can have that conversation. I tend to think that it's a bit more honest to show the skeletons and the drowning people in the Noah story than it is to have dollish Noah and wife smiling with rosy cheeks on the ark in sunny weather. I think its better to know what's there.Read more ›

The Bible is the Bible and the truth is, some serious and even violent things have happened in history, including the history in the Bible. I would not recommend this book for a very small child, but, knowing my son is being raised in the Faith, I was able to handle this with my 8 year old. I like that scripture references are marked down in the margins of the book so we could go the the scriptures ourselves and read the whole stories. This is a book of scenes. It is not complete stories. But because of the references, I find it to be a nice "Bible" to work with. I like that it's encouraged my son to make his own Lego Custom Bible figures even in his play. Because of some of the scenes shown, be prepared that it may make ?s arise. But let's be honest, who knew what Adultery was the first time you heard it in the 10 commandments as a child? And a Eunuch...what is that? I've read reviews claiming that the Author claims to be atheist. I do not know if this is true. All I know is that God's word is effective. Truth is truth. References are there and I have actually several copies and translations of the Bible, anyhow. So, it works. I appreciate the creative gifts given to the author. But, ultimately, I appreciate My Creator God! He takes all things and makes them work together for good to those who Love Him and are called according to His purpose! That describes me, so, it's good stuff!~ :)

Our Brick Bible arrived on Friday and my boys have been enjoying the books. The minifig and Lego illustrations are clever, (an amazing amount of talent is required to create these scenes!) but the stories are flat and one dimensional and not always accurate when compared to an actual Bible.

The Brick Bible tells the stories, but the author missed his chance to explain the "why" instead of just the "what". Oh, and it pretty violent. Readers will see a Lego version of circumcisions, dismemberment, and assaults on women. there are battles, trysts, Samson loses his eyes and John the Baptist is beheaded. *It is not like a Precious Moments Children's Bible!* (I figured I should note that. I don't want anybody buying it for their five year old who loves Legos.)

We are huge Lego fans and we are huge Bible fans, but this is kind of a collision of the two instead of a lovely blending and melding.

We bought this two volume set yesterday for Christmas. My son is a LEGO fanatic. He instantly wanted to sit down and read both testaments. The execution is stunning, the texts chosen verbatim from three older public domain translations of the Bible. It was obviously a labour of love. The amount of attention to detail and the creative vision is just staggering. No other version of the Bible I have seen has ever come close to being able to engage my son on any level like these books.

Reading other reviews, I wonder if they ever actually read and understood these sacred texts to find the depictions of what is printed in plain black and white so very shocking. Yes, this is what the sacred texts contain. Yes, God wiped out humanity with the flood. Wasn't that the point? Yes, that is the Old Testament God -- lots of smiting going on. I find the claim that there's anything obscene or pornograpic absurd. They are little rectangular pieces of plastic. They have no genitals. The only thing gendered about their bodies for the most part is the hair on their heads, drawn on eyelashes and lips. It amazes me that people who live in a society saturated with violent video games, television and films have a problem with a LEGO man's head being removed to illustrate an actual Bible verse. It's far, far less violent than the media kids are consuming all the time these days. No, it's not the sugar-coated Disneyfied version of the Bible which apparently a large segment of the population only knows but it is completely accurate and faithful to the text. My son is not going to have nightmares over Saul having his head cut off with LEGO blood on the LEGO ground and truthfully, he is not particularly brave at all. Far from it.

My elderly mother thought this a great book after looking at it with my son and she bought a copy for her church and is sending one to my nieces as well.
