One day, all the cows are unexpectedly put on a truck and travel to meet a mysterious person called Marquette. He is believed to be a giant and very important to people all over the world. Louise’s Secret is a heartwarming story about two cows who escape the fate of the meat packing industry told in an endearing way that children can understand. This book is a great way to teach children the value of all life including animal life. Louise’s Secret also emphasizes the concept of a mother’s love and all she will do to protect her young. Beautifully written with captivating illustrations this book is an excellent addition to your child’s library and can be enjoyed by young and old alike.

I feel this book is both entertaining and uplifting for kids, with interest-piquing story and the vibrant illustrations complementing each other very nicely. It would be terrific if all kids could be exposed to this book and learn to respect animals and question the outmoded narrative of exploitation of the weak by the strong. Highly recommended!

Who wouldn’t love a road trip story, about cows? Kudos to the author and illustrator (although some of the facial expressions might be a tad scary for little ones) who beautifully created a story of resilience and love. Great message—very thoughtful approach to teaching about the dairy farming business.

This is a beautifully illustrated, well-written book that enables the reader to understand the role of dairy cows, their often scary, uncomfortable journeys, and how humans have created animal sanctuaries to care for animals such as the two cows in this story, Louise and Thelma.
