In March to the Majority, New York Times bestselling author Newt Gingrich takes readers behind the scenes of the Republican Revolution in 1994 and the rise of the modern GOP.

The story of Gingrich's rise from college professor, to architect of the Contract with America, to Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives is historic. There were many adventures, personalities, missteps, and victories on the road from a seemingly permanent House GOP minority to the first Republican majority in 40 years. These untold stories and inspiring lessons about the rise of modern conservatism are immensely relevant today as the United States faces profound and extraordinary challenges.

Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich joins with former National Republican Congressional Committee Executive Director Joe Gaylord to bring alive the stories, events, and activities that led to the Contract with America and the first re-elected Republican majority since 1928. No two people are better positioned to tell this story than Gingrich and Gaylord. They were there, and they got it done.

Gingrich and Gaylord share never-before-told stories about:

Ronald Reagan Richard Nixon Tip O'Neill George H.W. Bush Bill Clinton, and other pivotal political figures March to the Majority is not only about the past, but also about the challenges our nation faces today and offers principles for governing the American people.

Another Stellar Book from Newt
I love this book. It provided a great perspective back during Newt's time as Speaker, and our politicians focused on the needs of the American people. The lessons in the appendix by Joe Gaylord can be invaluable to today's youth, for those who want to enter politics or everyday life. Great work, Newt!Looking forward to your future books.

Speaker Gingrich deftly defines the path to a Republican majority in 2024. He distillates the essence of the lessons he learned on his way to becoming Speaker of the House and how clear communication of goals, developing personal relationships and "Cheerful Persistence" can make the seemingly impossible, possible. As a Nation, we face serious challenges at home and abroad. Politically, there are many groups who continually seek a larger slice of the fiscal pie. We need to slow the degree of spending increases and fund budgets with the collecting of one of every eight dollars in revenue that currently goes uncollected. We need to create budget surpluses to begin paying down the national debt which has grown from 5.67 trillion dollars in 2000, to over 31.7 trillion dollars today! Interest on this debt is exploding. The CBO estimates that our country will be at 119 percent of GDP by 2033! This path is absolutely unsustainable! Fiscal weakness means national weakness which will negatively impact our future economy.
House Republicans and Speaker Gingrich have sounded the alarm over this growing catastrophe. We need to look at Social Security and Medicare for any possible savings including smaller Social Security adjustments in the future not tied to inflation. Military spending has to be looked at more carefully to eliminate spending wherever possible.
In his "What Works", Speaker Gingrich details 23 points to successfully seek positive, constructive change when people work together to create new approaches in resolving issues of national urgency. Responsible people will focus on "how to get there from here." They will focus on working together for the common good. To this end, the personal integrity and decency of Speaker Gingrich comes through in this book. Read and learn from this book. It is an easy read and highly informative.

As stated in March to the Majority’s introduction, the Contract with America, and historic Republican Revolution of 1994 was achieved through “…constant work, cheerful persistence over enormous frustration, learning and adapting, and experimenting…”. This book is more than a memoir or an autobiography due to it explaining how the hard work and political, policy, and legislative principles that led to the staggering successes and achievements of the first reelected GOP House Republican majority in 68 years (since 1928) is still applicable today and should be applied by the current GOP Congressional House leadership.

Gingrich and Gaylord make it clear at the outset that everyday Americans are the true agents of change for a better America, reminding the reader what President Reagan used to say: we want to shine a light on the American people, so they can turn up the heat on Congress.

Although more a playbook than a memoir, the book serves as a very important chronicle of the events leading up to the first GOP House majority in forty years (since 1954). Mr. Gingrich's ‘I was there’ commentary provides a riveting reminiscing of the chain of events that transpired.

Mr. Gingrich's ‘I was there’ commentary provides for a riveting reminiscence of the chain of events that transpired, starting with his experiences with the Harrisburg PA zoo at the age of 11:
"...This became one of those accidents of history that convinced me that you could not do anything big or important without first learning a lot of facts..."
-Invaluable insights garnered from General Edward Charles “Shy” Meyer, the chief of staff of the U.S. Army and Colonel Calloway of the U.S. Army’s Grafenwoehr Training Area.
-Reflections on the pivotal 1978 Georgia campaign, from being down 51% to 37% at the beginning of September to winning 54.4% to 45.59%.
-Insights from Chester Gibson on debating and lessons learned from the 1984 Mondale vs. Reagan campaign.

Winding up the book are three appendices that combines a wealth of strategic political knowledge with co-author Joe Gaylord's years of experience:
-Meet Joe Gaylord (Mr. Gaylord's career from 1968 to present)
-Gaylord's Lessons for Success
-Gaylord's Six Keys to Building a Majority
This is a multi-faceted publication that is extremely interesting to read from a historical perspective as well as being a vital national politics reference for elite professional campaigning.

March to the Majority is a fantastic book and should be read by every true -bloodied American citizen interested in the preservation of democracy for future generations in the United States of America. Not only a detailed description of the background and political strategy for the 1994 Republican Revolution led by Newt Gingrich’s Contract with America but the personal stories that propelled his drive and determination to successful Speaker of the House. Indeed a blueprint for Washington politicians today!

Good book for candidates running for office. I expected more about the 1994 election and reforms of the House after. I started working at the House min 1995 to help with Newt’s implementation of reforms. Would like to have more of his take on internal House reforms (and they were extensive).
