Some describe it as the town at the edge of the world. When Melody and Michael Devereux come to Collinsport on their honeymoon, they don't know the secrets that are hidden behind closed doors. But those secrets will be unearthed when an innocent is viciously murdered. Collinsport will be a town divided. One woman's rise to power will lead to further death and destruction. This first volume of Bloodlust works as both an entry point for non-DS fans and long time fans of the ABC soap opera from the late sixties & early seventies as well as fans of the Big Finish Productions series of full cast audio dramas. The production mixes characters from the TV show proper, characters created for the audio plays as well as characters new to the Dark Shadow universe. Written by Alan Flanagan. Will Howells & Joseph Lidster, these first 6 episodes, plus a brief prologue episode, makes for compulsive listening. Structured like the episodes of a soap opera, each installment ends with something of a cliffhanger that practically compels one to quickly move on to the next episode. Very much binge listening if you will. The usual high production standards of Big Finish are very much present and the creepy affair is directed with great style & wit by Ursula Burton and David Darlington. Volume two, comprising episodes 7 through 13, should be released in the very near future. Fans of the show, fans of audio drama & fans of horror should very much be on the look out for this.

Many thanks to all concerned for this amazing series. Even by the usual excellent standard of Dark Shadows from the Big Finish company, this has been a brave, exhilerating, thrilling, wistful, compelling, spooky, touching drama and I have loved every aspect of it from start to finish.

I have now finished listening to both volumes of this, and it is difficult to resist reviewing the series as a whole. To the reviewer that felt the story is shallow - firstly, I cannot agree: I find it packed with incident and tiny nods to the original series. Secondly, it's worth remembering this is only the first half of the story, and having heard it all, I can truly say that nothing happens in these episodes that is not built upon and explored very satisfactorily before the series' close.

The mixture of new and original cast members/characters is expertly handled, this making this a very enjoyable story for long term fans of the show and also people who many not be familiar with Dark Shadows. If you like horror, if you like audio, if you like quality drama at all, then this comes hugely recommended.

    Dan Curtis would be proud.

I find the story line very shallow, not much depth also very disjointed. On to the product case - SHAME! The thing fell apart in my hands, it is supposed to be a connected plastic case, it isn't -shoddy.

After all the years from the original Dark Shadows who could ever imagine a younger generation capturing the very essence of the original.

We have familiar names in the story and the most wonderful new introductions of residents of Collinsport.

This series along with the companion disks are a pure delight and a wondrous return to the Shadows. A MUST for any horror genre enthusiast. 5.5 stars.

This was an interesting story about Dark Shadows after Kingdom of the Dead. Many original series actors are in it. Snowflake is on here.

5.0 out of 5 stars the legacy of Dark Shadows lives on...

I found out about these Big Finish audio dramas from one of the adverts on my Dark Shadows dvds, and I"m so glad that I've purchased this (and the other past items) for the DS franchise!
These particular recordings are called "full cast audio dramas" which best describes the concept as listening to "vintage CBC radio broadcasts", a pleasant change from TV...these recordings are keeping the mysteries and thrills of the realm that is Dark Shadows alive, and I highly recommend them for any DS fan!
