Paul Chambers
(Author)
Forager and naturalist Paul Chambers explores the coast, fields, streets and gardens to reveal over a hundred of Britain's most exciting edible plants, flowers and seaweeds. This must buy guide uniquely blends the practical skills of foraging with the best elements of natural history writing. As well as recipes, identification tips and collecting advice, you will also learn about the historical, cultural and medicinal uses for each plant as well as its ecological significance. Much of this information is based on Paul's own research and experience and will not be found in any comparable books. With chapters that cover all parts of the British countryside, including urban environments and the seashore, FORAGING offers a comprehensive guide that will suit beginners and experienced foragers as well as those with a general interest in the natural and cultural history of edible plants. Highly illustrated and expertly written, this invaluable guide also includes a seasonal calendar and a handy A-Z of edible plants.

About the Author
Paul Chapman, founder and ex Chairman of the Northampton branch of The Western Front Association, is a keen historian and has been a member of the WFA for many years. Paul is also a member of the Talbot House Association. A regular visitor to France and Flanders, for a number of years he has arranged and escorted tours to the Ypres Salient.
Paul's interest in the Great War on the western front stems from his paternal grandparents. Good for beginners
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 16, 2014
Bought the kindle version.
Book begins with an introduction to foraging and some basic advice on where, where not to forage.
Book is broken down into sections....Garden, Hedgerows, Woodland etc.... each plant comes with a description, history, and some recipes to be used with them. They also come with an illustration of the plant.
Only criticism is that some of the illustrations are distant shots, or partial shots not really showing the plants detail making it hard to match the illustration to an actual plant, also on the kindle version the illustration can sometimes be 3 or 4 pages past the description.
Overall happy with the purchase

Not sp good for the field or to identify plants
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 9, 2014
Ok as a mini coffee table book, or to stimulate further research. Not sp good for the field or to identify plants, too much woffle and not enough plants in it.
