Where I felt the book let me down was that its title was “How to Stop Brexit” and at 55% of the way through not a word had been spoken on this matter.
Out of four chapters, the first offers a résumé of history and the EU so basic and familiar that I was tempted to skip it. The second chapter reiterated everything the Guardian and other pro-EU commentators had ever said about why Remain voters were unhappy with the Referendum campaign. Nothing new to be seen there.
At the beginning of the book – well, pamphlet – Clegg says it is “intended for those who don’t hold a strong view for or against Brexit”. In fact I think is serves only for those who are anti-Brexit Europhiles, to stiffen their resolve and have them writing to their MPs on a regular basis. But I did keep on going with the book because I wanted to know “how to stop Brexit”.
Finally the cunning plan was announced. The way to stop Brexit is by “getting MPs to vote down the deal they are presented with”. Well, that was predictable enough. Although Clegg also mentions that Jeremy Corbyn is pivotal to achieving this, and he is actually a Euro Sceptic. Never mind, there is “every chance that Corbyn can be cajoled and pushed” into blocking Brexit . Hmm. So stopping Brexit depends on how malleable Jeremy Corbyn is in the hands of Europhiles.
Once Brexit has been stopped, the Clegg-plan is for Sir John Major to be dispatched to agree a new EU-UK Convention with heads of governments so fast that no one has a chance to question it. Clegg’s vision is “the formalisation of an EU of concentric circles – with Britain reintegrated into it at the appropriate level.”
By 86% through the book the narrative was over and I was down to “Notes”. I had finished the book in around an hour.
I felt a bit miffed at how little, in both volume and content of interest, I got for my £4.99. But seeing as how Clegg lost his seat in Parliament and needs all the help he can get, I resisted the urge to ask for a refund.

It's the view of someone who voted remain, sure. But just look at his predictions in the book, real insight.
