I am going to deal with some elements in this book more in detail under Section 4 "Church Multiplication Movements" (CMM) in this June 2006 HPMC newsletter. Nevertheless, I want to here give a brief review of this book.
The book is not long and complicated (only 180 pages). Therefore, it deals more with general principles rather than a mono-cultural approach to church multiplication which will be of help to those of you planting churches cross-culturally. Logan cites enough examples of church multiplication in various parts of the world to make this book helpful.
The book is in two parts. Part one deals with the question, "Why Multiplication?" and in six chapters casts a vision for multiplication. Those of you who receive this newsletter will understand why I appreciate so much Logan's concern for what he calls, "Biblical roots" in chapter two. Part two deals with ten elements of an effective church multiplication movement. Logan finely balances the spontaneous and spiritual aspects of an effective CMM with the strategic and planned aspects.
Every church planter, facilitator, mission leader, and ministry leader needs to read and begin to work through how to implement what Logan aptly presents in this book. In the Foreword, Ed Stetzer states, "I have been waiting far too long for Bob to publish his fine work on church multiplication. I have heard him speak, used his resources, and read his articles all the while (impatiently) waiting to get my hands on something that brings it all together in one place." Then again, "For thirty years we have taken baby steps toward true biblical church planting--but books like these will help us break through into movements." p. 8.
This resource will be of help as in your ministry area you work through the two parts of this book and find motivation and then help in the strategy of church multiplication.
How helpful it would be for your church or ministry area to work through the chapters of this book and make major changes moving to a more effective multiplication model. How many more people might come to Christ if there was a shift from just planting one church to a church multiplication movement--particularly one that had a missionary sending capacity.
